Is the temperature "N" the coldest or "+ "the coldest?

N stands for normal. Usually normal is midrange while + is either colder (for more refrigeration) or warmer (for higher temperature). Check the end of the scale for the word , coldest. There will typically be arrows pointing toward colder/est as well. Best would be to move the dial just one (hopefully an) increment and come back 24 hours later and check for a decrease on the thermometer (yours or the reefers built-in one). If it moves the wrong way (assuming constant ambient temperature) try dialing the other direction. .

Fridge not cold enough

The higher the number the colder the temp is supposed to be.

In order to prevent the formation of bacteria and other such organisms to affect food the way it does, the ideal temperature range of refrigerators has been mentioned here. Before we look at these settings, it is important to know the format in which temperatures are represented within a refrigerator. Commonly, you will notice a dial representing the figures 1-5 or 1-9 in the refrigerator, and a dial representing the letters A-E in the freezer. The ideal setting is usually in the middle of such figures.

If the dial is in such a format in your refrigerator, try a setting at 3 if the range is 1-5, and at 4 if the range is 1-9. For the freezer, a setting at C is suitable.

The ideal temperature in the refrigerator ranges between 34 degrees F - 38 degrees F or 1 degrees C - 3 degrees C. So that foods such as vegetables and fruits remain fresh and crisp, the temperature may be set around 38 degrees F or 3 degrees C.
The ideal temperature in the freezer ranges around 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C) or lower.

Freezing problem

You don't want minimum temperatures if food is getting frozen. The less the temperature is, the colder it will be. If food is getting frozen, increase the temperature. Usually there is a dial in refrigerators, for example, with the numbers 1-7, 1 will be coldest and 7 will be warmest.

Does not stay cold. Even with

Sounds like the compressor, or a refrigerant leak. Being a year old I would call Frigidaire and try to get it fixed or replaced under warranty.

Deciding which way to turn the dial to get the minimum temperature

Coldest when you are on the higher number or higher letter. Ave setting should be around 3 on a scale of 1 to 5.
