Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

Open Question

My Frigidaire Eite model #FPWE19RWO, serial #LA21100828 date of manufacture 03-92 of WCI Canada does not defrost. It was my sister'sand she gave it to me from her rental house. It works really good right after I defrost it with a hair dryer by taking the interior back of freezer off but once it works for a while it frosts up and the cooling is poor. The coils seem to fost well when I start it - I beieve there is a problem with the defrosting. I don't have an owner's manual so I don't know if there is a defrost adjuster somewhere in the fridge or freezer or if it is just broken.
Any help you can give I ould certainly appreciate it.
Thank you, Ken Taylor

There is a defrost timer located in the refrigerator compartment in the area of the controls. It will be covered by a plastic panel but there will be a hole in the plastic through which you can access the clutch head screw to advance it into defrost. Turn the screw clockwise very SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. this will put the system into the defrost mode. Defrost should happen in 18-22 minutes . after the 18-22 minutes the system should automatically return to cooling. If it does not restart after 25 minutes turn the screw a little farther to the second click. If you had to turn the screw the second time to restart the cooling replace the timer.

If the system restarts automatically but does not defrost your problem is an open defrost heater or defrost thermostat. These are located behind the back wall inside the freezer section.

SOURCE: Water dripping from top of fridge (coil housing?) under freezer.

It could well just need defrosting. It does sound as though the coil in the freezer section is frozen. If you try defrosting it and the problem disappears then you have at least found a temporary solution. If it does rectify it I would closely monitor the cabinet for a couple of weeks to check for a reoccurrence. If it does reoccur then I would suggest contacting a fridge guy so that he can check the defrost circuit. The reason we normally suggest to defrost is incase a door was left ajar and the coil froze up because of this. I hope this is of some help and you seem to be on the right track.

SOURCE: Samsung RS2545SH coils freezing

Hey how's it going? I may have the info you need, but first I need you to go through a check list to see if there is a simple fix.
Check to see if there are any obstructions in the freezer drain (freezer drain located inside freezer compartment behind back panel lower right hand corner of the freezer coils) if there are obstructions or debris remove and clean with a mild dish washing detergent and water, check to see that water can drain freely. see if this helps.when the coils freeze is the ice flaky or is it frozen solid ice? if the ice is flaky it could mean that either the refridges/freezer door are left open to long "check your door gaskets or seals by closing the on a dollar bill if it pulls out easily with little to know resistance your door gaskets may need to be replaced. After you defrost the freezer coils did you notice if there was water in the condensor pan, if so good sign. (condensor pan: is the pan that collects the water that drips through the drain hole of the freezer compartment caused by the heating of the coil by the coil heater: water that enters the pan collects and is reused by the condensor fan by blowing warm air partly into the water and through the condensor coils causing them to cool.)if you still need to test your bi-metal therostat or your glass heater/ice pipe heater, you will need a multimeter and knowledge on the use of it.(IF YOU 'RE NOT NOT COMFORTABLE AROUND ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICITY PLEASE CONTACT A QUALIFIED REPAIR SERVICE AND REMEMBER TO UNPLUG APPLIANCE BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIRS) for more info on how to test please reply,Good Luck, be safe..

Well, if the service person said the defroster is not the problem, there must be a good reason. But, I would go with a faulty defrosting system. Most likely suspects are the defrost timer and the defrost heating element.

Leaking water inside fridge/freezes the food

Most likely your defrost condensate drain in the rear of your freeze is frozen over. I have put together a long page on the link below. Little too much about leaks in refrigerators and how to solve the problem to fit this page. Choose the part that applies most to your situation and let me know how I may help you resolve yours. Fridgidare, freezer cold fridge warm

sounds like you may have gotten a refridgerant leak causing a low charge condition. some refridgerators have a evaporator fan if this quit working it will cause it to freeze up .thus the freezer does not use a fan and it will still get cold

Refrigeraotr is out but freezer still works

doesnt make adiff how you loaded freezer, shouldnt affect fan operation anyway. if you have a meter you can check for proper voltage(110v) to fan wires and if you have power youll need to replace fan, easy enough to do just a few screws and about $50.. part number 5304445861.
