Re: wORD 2007 FREEZES
MS Office repair: Go to the "Add and Remove Programs" in your Control panel. Click the "Change" and do the 'repair program' utility. That should fix it, good as new. Be sure to have your INSTALL disk handy (for all Microsoft products).

Please Clarify your Problem, Im assuming from the open office statement that you are having issues opening office files like word in open office, If this so re save the file in office as DOC instead of DOCX Only office opens docx files
Unless you own Microsoft word, there really is no legal way you can get it for free (aside from some kind of promotion of course). You can purchase it, or download a trial from their website of course. If, for whatever reason, you do not wish to pay money for an office program, there are free alternatives. Also, if you have a student email (.edu), you can get it for far less money that normal. Some of the free alternatives include Open Office and Google docs. Open office runs from your desktop, so you will need to download and install it. Google docs runs from the web, and everything is stored on your google account (which you will need to get if you do not have one). Of course there are pros and cons to each, but bother are free. I hope that helps!
The problem is that your documents were created in older version of ms word now you need to open it up in xp 2007 which is not possible. You need to instal ms 2003 also on your machine so that you can open up older documents
Office 2007 will open 2003 word documents. Use open , to the bottom right pick 97-2003 docs, it will show only theses documents. Click open and the document will open. Your Instructor might have Microsoft Works if Document does not ope. The i nstructor should download compatibility software from Microsoft for Office 2007 and load. Then He could use save as a 2007 document.
Hope this helps?
For a free trial version you can try the link below:
However, if you are looking for free office productivity suite, open office would be the easier option, as it is totally free and works as good as or even better than MS office. Try the link below for the same.
Open office does way better than the Home and student MS office version do. Though open office saves in .odt format instead of the .doc format, you can save in .doc format also. If you want to send a document in .doc format to someone who can read only .doc format, this helps. Like wise, you can save in MS office formats for spread sheet or presentations. Open office also give you the option of saving in PDF format, if you want to send a document which is not editable by the recipient. One also will get a great selection of fonts and clip art galleries.
After long hours searching solutions for this, i have finely got back my work and just in time for submission.well my problem occur when using Word 2007 so this is what i have done. :
1. Go to http://converter.tds.lv 2. Upload the docx document of yours and submit the form. 3. The result then will give you the ability to download varius file format. click the .doc file and it will download the file. 4. Open the .doc in Word 2007. 5. In my case i have got all the format and text back (but i found few text format missing/gone. Just a few though.). So it is better than nothing right?
OTHER computers can only open Office documents if they also have the same version of office or a HIGHER (newer) version (backward compatibilitiy)
Office 2007 doc can open ONLY with Office 2007.
Both computers must have Office 2007.
But if you have Office 2007 you can open any OLDER Office doc (Office 2003, Office XP, etc.)
If much older, (Office 95 or earlyier) there is a conversion program to open the older version with a newer version.
"Did your problem get solved? I hope my suggestion helped. Let me know."
Dear jockpsy, i think there is some problem with your file. It seems to me that it has been corrupted. If you can open it for once, try to back up your data as soon as possible. If you can't try to restore your system to an earlier date.
Reinstall new word and rip your files on a cd/dvd. If you are done with virus scan, maybe this is the only solution for this.
