I have the Toshiba TV/DVD Combo less than 3 years old

Same problem - turn it on and it automatically shuts off. It would appear that this is a problem with this product and Toshiba should compensate the purchasers. I did not see any solutions and it is hard to even find anyone to check out/repair TVs anymore because they seem to be disposable and everyone buys a new one. I have never had a TV that was so short lived. I will never buy another Toshiba. I should have stuck with Sony or Panasonic. Was there ever an answer for this problem. Mine was definitely not storm related. It worked one day fine and the next it was completely gone. This should not happen with a TV less than 3 years old especially since this TV was in a bedroom and not used all that often.

Check thje following
the power reaching your switch via a fuse and power out of the switch, when switched on.
if the power is leaving the switch okay then check the power supply components
semi conductors, for leaks and shoots, zener diodes, and capacitors for variations and change of values especially electrolitic capaciturs. if you get a high voltage of 85 and above going to the transistor near the transformer, then check your line trasistor.

This is a very common problem in these sets. I would recommend taking it to a certified repair shop. What normally happens is that the x-ray protect transistor starts to "leak" (electricity, not fluids) and shuts the unit down. The repair is not too costly.

Screen freezes and then shuts off. This cycles every 1-2 minutes

Try the main board with the cpu chip. The cpu chip should have a heatsink attached to it, may be an overheating problem. It has the LCD panel connector plugged into it. You may be able to find the board on ebay for less than a repair shop.

Set is 7 years old - it turns off intermintently

Ours used to do that - and then we moved it to another state with us. Since the move it doesn't shut itself off anymore. I suspect that the problem was dirt and dust inside which got knocked loose in the move and the shutdown was due to thermal limits being exceeded. You may want to try vacuuming or blowing out the dust inside if you feel comfortable opening up the unit.

Toshiba LCD 37" with gray band and blue line

Unfortunately you are right it is the display panel going bad. You can either live with it or buy you a new tv as the panels usually cost as much or more than the tv. Sorry.

Toshiba TV/DVD combo turns on then off again.

try letting it sit for 15-20 minutes unplugged from the wall and maybe try another outlet depending on if u got plugged in to a power strip, possibly pulling to much power from that perticular outlet.

Won't turn on.

JerJohn29, did you fix your problem? The same thing just happened to me. I turn tv on, it tries to boot and then shuts down. How do I check for a shorted h. o/p transistor???
