I Love Math won't run

When I install and try to run DK Multimedia's "I Love Math" I receive a message saying "The sound software is not installed properly or has been disabled" and it terminates. I am trying to run it in the Windows XP OS with a SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio device. The software files are all dated in 1999 so it's old. I had this problem on my previous computer and never got it resolved. That too was running Windows XP.
