When i print it is mostly red even when it should

when i print it is mostly red even when it should be black. does that mean that my black cartridge is empty? or not working properly

There may be both the possibilities, ie; Either the Cartridge is Empty or its not working properly.
To check your Ink Level read this
If the level is ok, then your Cartridge may be faulty, you have to get a new one.
