Have you changed the speakers? Usualy an overheating amp means the resitance on the speakers is too low. If your amp is only 4 ohm stable, and you have two 4 ohm speakers hooked together, you are running a 2 ohm load. Hope this helps.

Try new popcorn, popcorn dries out and does not pop well after being opened.

If the popcorn does not pop, and just turns black then it is too cold. If it pops very rapidly and then burns it is too hot. It is almost never too hot if you shut it off fast enough.

No heat

If you remove the outer cover of the microwave, you will see a magnatron. Usually on the RHSide of the micro. This magnatron will need replacing. On the magnatron,is an over temp.sensor. If this gets hot excessively, then all will stop untill it cools down. This indicates magnatron is faulty.(Assuming cooling fan runs when micro program is selected and switched on). Honestly, i would suggest caution if undergoing this repair as the voltages are extreemly high and there are proceedures to repair theese units. Testing equiptment a must.

The micro wave heats but won't pop popcorn. We do more time than required but 50 - 70 % OF THE KERNELS DON'T POP.

How old is your popcorn? If it's over a year old in the pantry and not in the fridge it tends to dry out/shrible inside. Or...note that these days instructions indicate between 2 types:
regular hot air popping method and microwave friendly popcorn. You can buy hot air poppers cheaply at many resale shops.

Kenmore Microwave Won't Heat Food

The service manual is here.

Unless there's a bad connection at a magnetron terminal, I would say you have a failing magnetron.

It is part number 2B71165R and you can get it from the Pros here for $68.59 (subject to change).

Dacor Microwave/Conv Oven DCM24S

Placing the bag on an inverted glass bowl or pyrex casserole dish worked!!!!!  For 2 years, I have cursed my Dacor microwave for its inability to make popcorn (burns a hole in the bag, bag stays flat, almost no kernels pop, etc...)  I read the last suggestion to use the glass plate and I am now sitting with a bowl full of perfectly popped popcorn - with only 1 kernel unpopped.  The metal tray in the microwave conducts too many waves through the bag I guess.
Thanks for the solution!

The cooling fan is a must!

Otherwise, the magnetron will be ruined, and that drives up the repair cost.

Westbend hot air popcorn maker

Method One
  1. Pour a quarter cup of popcorn kernels into a paper bag.
  2. Fold the top of the bag three times.
  3. Place the paper bag in the microwave.
  4. Set the timer for 40 to 60 seconds. (mine took 3-4 minutes)
  5. Wait and have fun.
  6. Remove the bag and pour the popcorn into a dish.
  7. Cook unbaked kernels for about 15 to 20 seconds.
  8. Add the extra popcorn to the other batch.
  9. Pour melted butter and salt onto the popcorn.
  10. Serve.
Method Two
  1. Take a frying pan and a fitting lid.
  2. Put some grease (canola oil for example) in it to make sure your corns won't stick to your pan.
  3. Wait until the pan is hot--you can add 1 or 2 kernels to the pan as it heats up... when they pop, the pan is hot enough to add the rest of the corn
  4. Put in the corns, make sure you use corns which are meant to use in a pan.
  5. Put on the lid fast! Make sure no corns flip out. Shake your pan a few times to make sure all corns are loose.
  6. Now you hear a lot of pops, just wait until all sound is gone.
  7. When nothing happens quickly take of the pan and put your corns in a bowl.
  8. Put on salt/sugar.
  9. Serve.
Method Three
  1. Buy some microwave popcorn.
  2. Follow the instructions.
  3. Serve.

Microwave Turntable

Microwave popcorn gets VERY hot while cooking. Even though the turntable is made of temepred glass, intense heat applied in the same spot over and over can weaken the molecular structure of the glass. After so many expansions and contractions, it will crack because fatigue will cause some molecules to expand less than others, creating stress. This is yet another reason I recommend to my customers that they place the food off-center on the tray - not in the center. The oven also heats better when the food is off-center because the food is more thoroughly exposed to the microwave energy. Until you get a new tray, the photo below can help you.
