Question about Samsung CLP-510 Laser Printer

Samsung CLP-510 Print Quality problem

My printer prints a black (or colored) 1 inch thick series of vertical stripes down the left side of the paper about 90% of the time. (Occasionally, I get lucky and no stripe appears at all). If I'm printing more than 1 sheet of paper, it usually appears after the first couple sheets, and gets worse with each one. Solution? Help!

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Print Quality problem

The following can cause bands (vertical on a normal page)

Faulty Toner cartridge
Faulty Drum Unit
Faulty Transfer Belt
Contaminated Fuser
Damaged or dirty LSU glass

I've also seen this sort of thing caused by a crusty build-up of toner on a wiiper blade on the Transfer Belt, and or Drum.

When I print a color page, there is a multi colored line about a 1/2 inch thick along the left side of the paper. The print quality is good for everything on the page, just this line of swirled colors. ...

Run the Print Quality test. Sounds like one of the color cartridges is bad.
Also run the Disable Cartridge test. That will let you test each cartridge by itself.

Before you do that, open the front door halfway. Now you can see each of the color drums in each cartridge. One of them may have a 1/2" stripe on the drum on the left side.

Please remove the cartridges from the printer. Take a dry lint free paper towel and gently wipe the contacts on the back of the cartridge (not the bottom from where ink is present). Wipe the contacts inside the printer (on cartridge carrier). Please snap the cartridges back into the cartridge carrier.

Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:

1. Please press the "Options" button 10 times. "Cartridges" should now appear in the display screen.
2. Press the "Left Arrow" button once, which then brings you to the "Self-Test" option.
3. Press the "Select" button once. You will hear a series of clicks.
4. It should print out a sheet of paper with horizontal color and black lines and smaller vertical lines.

You should see text followed by a thick 1-inch black bar. Under this bar, should be a process gray bar about ½-inch thick. Below this line should be a set of railroad like bars of cyan, magenta, and yellow.

Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with the color cartridge installed. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.

Why does the Samsung clp-510 color laser printer keeps defaulting to black and white print out when printing color images?

Well one thing you should do is when your printing something out before you print make sue that you have selected color not black and white because most printers have a default setting to use black and white. Also make sure that you have color ink available to print.
