HP 530 Laptop CD/DVD Drive Not Working

I bought my HP 530 laptop from a guy i knew about last christmas. The CD/DVD drive will not work at all! It won't read Cds, DVDs, nothing. It won't even open or make noises or anything. It shows up on My Computer and Device Manager but doesn't do anything. I have tried uninstalling it and rebooting, but nothing happened. Is there a way to fix this or should i just buy a new one? Please Help!!!

Please buy new CD/DVD drive since it wont open you cant event check using media. Its a possible mechanical failure.

Are you using vista? Some updates will wipe out your devices over night. See if you can restore to an earlyier date. There is an upgrade to windows 7 for free. I have nothing good to say adout "vista" ther than it is know for causing Suicide. Don't give up you can always go back to XP. They have the drivers for most devices. bill might say"point the monitor north and put your right finger in your ear and press any key with your big toe on your left foot"
