Hello rfb640,

This is Romeet, i would like to help you with this problem. Please go into the BIOS and check if the hard disk is detected? if it is then remove the hard disk from the laptop and turn on, check if you get any error message for " disk boot failure" or something of that effect or you continue recieving the white cursor?

My Toshiba c-55 wont turn on the white button light flashes 4 or 5 times and then stops but it never turns on.

I heard of many power issues with these models. Mostly concearning the battery, it sounds like this may well be the case from the 'light flashing' issue.

The other problem involving slow start up/ being laggy could be down to the machine running hot and Windows is using passive cooling in the power options, or a failing hard drive can also cause software problems.

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as the user to log in once you have your computer running again you have to take control (administrator)control panel user accounts on the users tab, click the name of the computer administrator you can change the password there or if your computer has a system restore you can restore it to an earlier date which will have your personal settings or

wait untill its dark outside, open your hood and start the engine. look around for white / blue or yellow flashes of light coming from your plug wires. most of the time the spark plug wires are worn out / degraded from heat , and you can see the small lightning flashes in the dark. if you see no light flashes ( shorts to ground) then you can have a cracked / faulty distributor , or bad spark plugs.

Wont boot up starts up and go into windows but isnt showing icons ot task bar and i cant use my recovery disc that came with my notebook

a regular XP or Vista installation cd will work as well.... for a recovery if you have one on hand try a System Restore first if you can under : Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools this process will take a while to shut down and reload so be patient.... make sure to select a previous restore point

It wont start up.

Part of the process that Windows needs to fire up has been corrupted. This prevents you using safe mode also. Generally only a repair or full install will fix it but first try a disc check

boot from any xp cd and select R at the first options screen.
select C drive by entering the number shown (1?)
hit enter when asked for admin password
type chkdsk /r (space between k and /r) and hit enter
let it do its thing - it may take some time.

Hi, Does it start to boot from windows and then shut off or is it before windows? Try removing the HDD and see if it will still shut down. If it does not shut then with the HDD removed, then the OS on the HDD is corrupted. Thanks, Mike
