Re: Blank spots

Is this during a DVD? if so then your DVD may be scratched or your digital coax cable is a cheapo inferior quality cable.

HDMI signal cuts out for a few seconds constantly from receiver to television. It does it when switched to cable box and the roku box. Onkyo TX-SR606 Scientific Atlanta Cable box thru HDMI Roku Box...

Mine did the same thing where the screen would go black for a few seconds and then the picture and sound came back. I would try (1) switch HDMI cables, (2) try a different HDMI input in the back of the receiver, (3) try different input in the back of the TV. None of these seemed to work with mine. I finally ended up running the cable box direct to the TV and only run the audio through the reciever via coax or digital. No more problems. I think the HDMI inputs in the back of the reciever have a problem continuously carrying the signal if it is the leaset bit weak.

Clicking sound from unit occsanially

clicking sound? most receivers resort to this trying to determine what the input source is, and mainly if they are trying to determine if it is a analog or digital input signal, try setting the input source switch to AUTO if available, this way it will recognize the signal and switch to that input mode.

After few sec when you turn on your receiver did you hear a click noise ? if yes your receiver is OK not in protection mode if no click noise is output protection in that case you must return where did you buy for service and update firmware a lot of update
However you can reset your receiver and debug the DSP section ( digital signal processor ) as follow

Now turn back on and check if it work or not and make sure check input mode such as analog or coaxial or optical input if stil no sound then debug DSP as follow
To set in DSP debug mode
1. Press and hold down DISPLAY button, then press STANDBY/ON button while the unit is powered ON.
The version number of m icroprocessor is displayed only for 3 seconds.

Denon AVR-1508 Receiver problems - cuts off and goes into protect mode

Usually when the unit runs for a while before shutting down there are two possibilities:

1) There is a small amount of DC current present that effectively heats up the speaker coils enough to cause a temporary short circuit that kicks in the protect circuit.
2) The output transistors or bias transistors are sensitive to heat and breaking down again causing the protect circuit to kick in.

A few experiments to try:

1) Does the time to shutdown change depending upon the volume level?
2) Is there any background noise coming from the speakers? Listen to a blank tape for example. Is there a hum or any other noise that you would not normally expect?
3) If you have a DC voltmeter, check for any voltage between the speaker lines.

Update this and we'll try to narrow this down.

Technics amplifier sound cuts after a few seconds operation

hi there if the sound cuts out after a few seconds and then if you turn it back on again if it does the same you might have a few problems ,,
make sure you are not overloading with to many speakers
make sure all positives are to positive and negatives are to negatives
make sure the unit is not over heating or getting to hot make sure it has room to circulate the hot air
and also check the wiring for any breaks or rips that could be touching each other to make it shutdown
when it cuts out its going into safe mode to prevent further damage one of those will defintly be your problem good luck with it hope this helps

WTF is wrong with my harman kardod AVR7000?

hey, I just bought a used avr7000 from auction and it has similar problems that you and others have posted on the net. From the receiver mine has no audio and at times minutes/hours apart sound comes out for a few seconds and then cuts out again. i have yet to try the inputs, you can download the service manual from i am of the understanding that the problem is on the DSP board(it has the digital/optical inputs), primarily the 10uf capacitors(about 10) need replacement. Im am yet to try anything, the board looks delicate and would required proper soldering and desoldering tools. from australia

Sound from digital input(s cut out

You are probably correct. The input switcher IC or the power supply feeding the Optical switcher is most likly got a problem. The cost to diagnoise a problem like this could cost you with a repair, more then you could most likly get a new reciver for. Its a shame of all the great technology that gets thrown aweay in the dumps every day. Good Luck PS please do not forget to rate this thread.
