Question about Mitsubishi HS-U775 S-VHS VCR

1 Answer

Basic Functions Don't Operate Near End of Tape

My HS-U775 operates well except when the cassette is stopped at any point
near the end of the playing cycle, none of the normal functions will get it going
again. Pushing PLAY, REWIND, FAST FORWARD, etc. are totally inoperative.
If I transfer the cassette to another VCR and rewind back to a point, the U775
will then function normally. If a tape is played non-stop, completely to the end,
it will shift into the rewind mode normally.

How can I stop the cassette deck from stopping play after one second? This happens in both directions on each deck!

The belts on the spindles are worn to the point that it senses the end of the tape and shuts off. Replace the belts.

I forget exactly how this goes but there are two posts on either side of the mechanism that read a light signal and a center pole that goes through the round hole on the cassette that gives the light signal (no tape-end of tape). Put a piece of tape on the two side posts and see if that changes anything. Be careful: the tape now knows where end of tape is - do not fast wind/rewind to the end! The loading motor may have failed or a rubber belt has slipped off or is too loose or broken.

On Kenwood CT 2050, tape speed varies near end of reel and stops prior to end of reel

Many cassette units have trouble handling 120 min tapes. You seem to have taken care of some of the problem areas but in my experience I would suspect the belts have stretched or aged. If this an older deck, the motor may be weakening. It can be the source of the problems you describe

I have a onkyo cassette tape deck ta 2600,when you push play on the cassette,it would play the tape for half of a second and stop

Sounds like the cassette tape itself is too tight to play, try fast forwarding or rewinding the tape in the deck all the way to the end of tape several times before trying to play. This may solve the problem

Check with a small torch, to ensure that there is no tape broken arround the pinch roller or head, if there was no tape broken away, between the pinch roller and the cassette head there is a white cassette bar, this may have become bent.

Technics 373 Dual Cassette - Playback Stops

Suggest having a good clean and replace belts. If it stops around halfway on a C90 or near the end then there's a load problem on the take up reel, before halfway the supply reel.

Sounds like the tape tension sensor is stuck. The sensor is always telling the mechanism that the tape has reached the end.
