Doing defrost by hand you may have weakened a line then plugged it in built up pressure and blew a line...freon gone line not easy to fix need to replace the total evaporator l will stop you need to unplug it and seal the ends of the broken pipe to keep the moisture out of the system and get it to a repair shop asap...to seal it try kids play putty orcaulking

That poping sound was probably your compressor seizing, put your hand on it and see if you can feel it vibrating, it should be a fairly deep piston type vibration. if all you feel is like and electrical hum type, then you need a new compressor.
