My Panasonic TV has a large rectangular black out. My Verizon Help thinks it is a problem with closed captioning and said I should contact you. He guessed right because my deaf son in law is deaf and he had a problem with the new Fios set up when visiting last week end. Evelyn Conover

I decided to take a chance and try a few things myself and I fixed it. I pushed down and held the cc button with the little triangle A button that is next to it and that fixed it! This was using the new Fios remote which you probably don't have. Thank you for trying. Evelyn Conover

Either with the original remote or the menu button go into the customer menu until you find the Closed caption section---you will find that TEXT has been selected(this will give you a black box in the middle of the screen) either move it to CC1 if you want closed captioning or to off or CC2.

If this helps you I would appreciate a vote from you here. if you need more help reply to this post and I will try to help.

Intermittantly there is a black rectangular box that appears on the screen for a few seconds then goes away. Our set is 4 years old. Kris 317-201-6643

Turn off close caption in tv, need to go to menu to turn off close caption function, that will solve your black rectangular box problem.

I have a42PX75U Panasonic TV. Lately when I try to put a DVD or VCR tape I get a large black rectangular box that I can't keep off the screen. Any Suggestions?

ONE: Just unplug the power cord for 20 minutes, then power it back up.

TWO: Then, after the reset in ONE go into the on-screen-display area (or on the remote control for some sets) and disable the closed captioning.

That should clear it up.

We have 2002 panasonic large screen tv. It has a large black square in the middle of the screen. Is is repairable

Yes and usually by the customer - turn off the closed captioning (CC). Look through the on screen menu (setup menu) to find closed caption and select it to off.

A black rectangular black screen shows up but..... sony trinitron

Check the set up. You may have closed captioning turned on which will show up as a black box if there is no closed captioning information for the selected channel. If that fails to resolve the problem, update this.

Thanks,

It is probably the closed captions on text mode.

look on the remote for a CC button or use the user menu to disengage the closed caption.

Black Box

You have inadvertently activated one of the closed-caption modes called T1 or Text 1. Find out how to turn the closed-captioning off and on and you'll be able to turn this off.

Large black square blocks screen

Most likely it's the closed captioning has been turned on. From your post I assume you have the remote control and able to access the menus so try to turn off the closed captioning. I'll be notified if you post something new.

Black Box on screen

By your description it sounds as though the closed captioning option has been turned on on the TV. Only certain programs are CC capable and that accounts for the box moving from channel to channel as some broadcasts are not CC CAPABLE. Go to the menu on the tv and ensure closed captioning is disabled. This should resolve the issue. If you need more help please let me know.

Panasonic tv

This may be because the closed caption bulletin board feature may be turned on. Go in to the user menu, and see how to turn off the closed captioning. You may need to refer to the user guide. If you need the closed captioning, you will have to find the proper mode to put it in.

Sharp 17" TV

It's the Closed Captioning function I think. I've had the problem with my Sharp TV (and other TV's that have Closed Captioning function). Look at the menu or the manual to see how to turn off Closed Captioning. It might be marked as "CC".
