How do we clean the inside of the kettle--the water spots,etc. Do we use any cleaner?

Usually taste change is created by a build-up of something inside the kettle or pot. Try the Baking Soda cleaning method:

• Pour one cup of baking soda into the kettle.
• Add water to fill
• Heat the water and baking soda to boiling
• Unplug the kettle and allow it to set for at least 10 minutes.
• With a scrub brush or other scrubber, gently scrub the inside of the kettlepot. Be careful not to burn yourself.
• Once it's all clean, wash with soap and water normally and rinse really well

That will usually get out any old residue that's affecting the taste

You can use Lime-Away (at Home Depot) or Apple Cider vinegar. It seems to work much better then regular vinegar. In either case let it boil if it has no element inside the water compartment, put a small clean rag inside and use a wooden spoon to clean the heavier areas. Boil it a few times, then dump it, and boil and clean with clean water twice, then put it back in service.

try vinegar neat white or brown its less corrosive than the branded descalers which do work quicker i admit but my kettle started to leak
because of these strong cleaners now i use vinegar its cheap.

please check the manual.and see if it is has a small hole or opening in kettle to go to outside of steam.
your one must be blocked .

It must have been badly over heated. Check at the local hardware store for cleaners that can clean over heated metal surfaces.

Vinegar is very good at removing scaly deposits. Heat white/clear vinegar just as you would normally heat the water for your tea. After heating the vinegar, pour out and rinse thoroughly with water. If there are still deposits after this first attempt, use vinegar once again. Once you are satisfied that all the deposits have been removed, heat water in the tea pot 2-3 times to remove any smell or taste from the vinegar (before using for tea).

I use a solution of vinegar and water (1:1) and boil it in the kettle, to remove mineral deposits from the metal heating surface (We do the same with the percolating coffee maker and run it through several times)... It seems to take any residual tastes out of the unit and possibly also cleans the plastic parts that it touches (I believe it does).
By the way... WHO thought it was a good idea to heat apple cider in an electric kettle. Sorry but WOW

Not having received any solution message from FIXYA contributors, I consulted with a family member
and also my long held Time-Life Books, Fix It Yourself Library, Volume: Cleaning & Stain Removal,
ISBN: 0-8094-7400-X, Copyright 1990. My issue was resolved by using white vinegar and soaking the internal problem area for 30 minutes. The appliance has cleaned up like new and works fantastic. I apologize for bothering you.
