You may not have a digital tuner in the tv / vcr. There are digital tuners available that solve the problem. They connect to the digital antenna and then to the tv through A/V cables or thru a coax antenna input to the tv.
Do you have an indoor or outdoor aerial? Indoor aerials will not have the strength to pick up television broadcast signal. Double check your connections, as you could have a loose wire or connection somewhere. You might need to speak to someone who, can take a look at your aerial to see if it is configured correctly. Also to make sure it isn't a problem with the aerial, do you have another TV that you can try using on the aerial. to see if you can get signal?
By pressing the volume + & - buttons at the same time on the TV itself you will bring up the master setup menu. From here you can select first time installation and the TV will auto retune to the new digital stations
Is your outdoor aerial a proper freeview aerial and are you in a strong or weak signal area. You can check here:http://www.stevelarkins.freeuk.com/freeview_digital_tv.htm Also check your connections as the coax may be shorting with the braid or a bad connection.once checked try ordinary channels on upstairs tv and if ok retune all your digital channels. This can be due to a few problems.Firstly make sure your aerial is
pointing in the right direction as beam aerials attenuate(disregard)
signals which are not pointing directly at the aerial. make sure you are using good quality 75ohm cable i.e rg6 and connections are good and not shorting out. The length of run of the cable will also affect the signal as will any splitters or joins in the cable. If
you know the signal is good in your area then it will be down to the
aerial, cable terminations ,aerial position or a combination of these. If
the signal is poor you can either...Buy a high db gain arial which will
amplify the signal and or a masthead preamp which will again boost the
signal. please note that if your aerial is not pointing in the
correct direction then any boosting of a bad signal i.e ghosting...will
only make it worse. try starting from aerial direction then connections then a high gain aerial and or booster.
You may need a better aerial. Digital TV signals need good signals or you can't pick up the full range of channels. Broadcasters and others are tending to keep their mouths shut about the expense of needing much better things on the roof than what many people use to get away with on analog signals. Even if you have a good aerial, If you have the 'brown' coax cable connected to it you could lose signal and stations. So it's best to replace it with Satellite coax cable FT100. That should stop a lot of blocking caused by interfearance by cars or those off road bikes youths ride around on.
I actually moved my tele to the other side of the room to see if it would work in a different spot and it took me ages to get some signal by moving my aerial around. The signal still wasn`t strong and i didn`t have alot of the channels and then i turned it on a few weeks after and it was working perfectly. Don`t ask me why! :s
