Question about Samsung HT-X40 System

1 Answer

Picture cuts out and sound delays

I actually have a HT X70, but couldn't find how to ask a question no that system. Anyway, let me tell you the problem. I have an xbox360 and HDDVD drive with it, they are hooked up to my Panasonic LCD TV by component, picture is awesome. The sound is hooked up to my Samsung via digital optical, the sound is great but sometime delayed. The biggest problem is the upscalling with my HDMI going from the my Samsung to my TV. When watching DVDs in 480p, it sounds and looks great. When upscalling, 720p or 1080i, the sound is delayed after a while and also it will cut out every five minutes or so. The picture goes blank, but the sound is still there. Only, after it starts to cut out, the sound gets delayed. I thought it was the cheap HDMI cord I bought so I went out and bought an eighty dollar Monster cord. Same problem is there. What can I do? My friend is going to play his laptop with HDDVD drive to see if it is the cord or TV, but until then, I was wondering if there is a remedy to the problem. Thanks

When I watch, the screen just cuts out, doesn't necessarily freeze. The sound keeps going just like normal, but the picture cuts out. This only happens when I'm watching it in 720 or 1080. In 480, it works just fine, but some of the sound is behind. The 720 and 1080 sound is always delayed. Does this sound like your problem?

My HT-X40 has the same problems. I returned the first player for another and it displayed the same problem. I talked to a Samsung rep that insisted the blanking was a problem with the HDMI cable. I changed the cable and have yet to have the blanking problem (only a couple of movies watched since the change) but still have the AV sync episodes happening in the middle of a movie. If I stop (press once) the movie and restart, the audio re-syncs.

I also have the same problem. We just bought our first HD TV (Sony Bravia 40" LCD) I connected my Samsung HT-X70 via an HDMI cable. Picture goes blank every 10 - 15 seconds when I try to up-convert to 720 or 1080. Sound still plays.  It plays fine on 480, but what the hell is the point of buying an "up-convert" DVD if it won't do it.  Samsung told me it was the cable. Went out and bought a Monster HDMI 500. Same problem.  I sent an email to Samsung support to see if I can get a better answer, but haven't heard back yet. Does anyone know what this problem is?  Is it a compatibility issue with certain HD TV's.  Is it a bug with the HT-X70 players?  I am extremely upset that I am not watching my DVD's at a higher resolution when my HDTV is capable of handing 1080 and my DVD player claims it up-converts to 1080 (or at least 720).  Answers please!!!

I have the same problem with my HT-X70. I contacted Samsung Brazil (live in Brazil) and they confirmed it is a software problem in the system. They are trying to correct it, but so far they were unable to.

I'm amazed to hear that Samsung Brazil confirmed a problem with their product, because when I called (several times) they told me it was my Sony TV.  I recently borrowed a Phillips upconverting DVD player, plugged it into my Sony TV, set it to 1080, and it worked perfectly!  My opinion is that the problem we are all having is in fact the Samsung DVD player - not the cable, not the TV.  I plan on contacting Samsung (AGAIN....) and giving them hell. You should all do the same, and maybe it will help them get off their asses and offer up a solution.

I also have the exact same problem, have tried multiple HDMI cables with same response, have used the cables and the tv with another upconverting DVD player and it worked perfectly. Basically these samsung DVD players are junk. I have called customer service, and have had it serviced twice already, both times they changed the motherboard, and it still has the same problem, I have asked for an upgraded system, but they give me the run around and say it needs to be serviced three times before they can do an exchange or upgrade. Has anyone gotten a Samsung to give them an upgraged or new system?

Wow, I have the same problem. I have even tried using never used DVDS, it just freezes after a while. I will get small glitches every few minutes. I am calling Samsung tommorow and raising hell, this was a Christmas present and I am embarrased. I also use HDMI and have changed the set up to 720P.

Hello my Samsung HT-x70 plays for about 20 minutes and then shuts off. Please help

First check in back that the fan is running. Second: Remove cover and check for bad capacitors in the back right corner. The ones in my system were blue. one had totally dissolved. I replaced the capacitor ad the system worked fine, Then found the fan was not running so replaced that too. It does take some soldering to repace the capacitor.

Problem with Lag between picture and sound

There should be a setting in the Home theater's menu (probably under Audio or Audio Setup) to increase or decrease the delay. Set this to the least possible delay, or if possible, no delay at all. This, from what I read is a very good unit so it should have this setting in the 'Menu', if you can't find it, the manufacturer should be able to help. Good Luck!

Samsung HT-X40 System Problem

Hello All, I discovered the same problem when connecting my LCD TV LE40R8 to my HT-X30. I reported the problem to Samsung this morning and they told me that they are aware of the issue (which is with the TV) and an automatic software update to resolve the problem will be sent out to the TV early in December. You should get an automatic update message on your screen, just follow the instructions and this should upload the fix. Fingers crossed!
