I'd recommend checking the fans of the projector, and make sure that they're spinning. Since you've mentioned that the lamp blew inside the unit, bits and pieces of the lamp might have lodged itself within the fans. It might also have to do w/ the after-market replacement bulb, which I normally wouldn't recommend.

Reset Hitachi Rear Projection Television 50EX12BAV5K022561

There are no resets. The only way to reset a tv like this is to unplug the unit for several hours and let the memory and capacitors drain before restarting. Have you checked you manual for lamp hours reset and how to change the bulb? These sets need to have lamp hours reset when you change the bulbs or they won't turn on. I might just be possible your bulb has burned out.

Lamps only last for 5,000 hrs -8,000 Playing hrs
It means every hour you Play TV Lamp burns up the hours, so after 5,000hrs on most Lamp needs replacing, some Lamps dont even last this long DLPs are not like Projection you can play them 24-7 and Tubes will remain good, But Lamps are like a light bulb they all burn out after so many hours.
Best thing is to turn TV off if you are not watching it, in order to Save Hours burt on Lamp.

Can I reset my lamp timer without replacing the lamp?

That should be fine to do. Even if the projector did alter the current based on lamp life, the worst that could happen in the lamp would burn out completely. A good projector should have a safety circuit with a fuse to prevent damage to any internal components. You should be fine.
