Question about Video Game Consoles & Games
Actually, that's not entirely correct. There are two three of PS3 that were capable of playing PS2 games. The two launch models (20GB and 60GB) had hardware support for PS2 games, which means they basically had a PS2 inside them to run PS2 games. Sony has stopped making both of those models, so the only way you can get one is by getting a used one from eBay or some other source. There was an 80GB model that Sony made for a time that had software compatibility with PS2 games, but that didn't work as well as the 20GB/60GB models, and Sony has stopped making those as well. So again, used is your only solution.
