Ive had this problem before, on my camera it means that the lens isnt rotated all the way onto its engaging point on the lens mount... it gets a little loose and shifts out of the way sometimes...

Re: D80 lcd flashing "F- -"

Could be out of range for focus capabilities of the lens/body.
otherwise, try removing the battery and then reinserting it after 10 seconds. that should cause a full reset.
if the camera is set for a range the lens can handle, then you may need to have it serviced.
some camera boards cause the camera to blink and not shoot if there is not enough contrast to the subject for normal focusing.
one thing to try, use it in auto focus mode to determine the correct settings and then switch to manual to see if those settings work.

Everything on control panel is flashing. Can't operate camera.

Hi Shirley,

It sounds like your camera's CPU is stuck in a loop. First, I'd remove and transfer any pictures on the SD card in a card reader connected to your computer, followed by formatting the card. Leave the SD card out of the D80. Set the power switch on the D80 to "off" and install a freshly charged battery. If it is still flashing, a "Full Reset" may help.

Nikon recommends that a full reset be done only under direction of Nikon staff. The procedure is outlined along with graphics on this page under "Full reset". I suggest calling Nikon support to see if they think this procedure (or maybe another that they have) will solve the problem.

Error message on my Nikon D80

I have the same message r07 on the same camera & lens combination. It is an lens error message that the lense will not focus. You can manually focus the lens in the auto mode and the camera will allow you to take a picture. I have been told it is the MR unit and cost of repair around $135.

Hi, Also, try a factory reset found on page 129 of the manual. On the left side of the camera is the terminal cover, inside below the USB connector is the reset switch. If that does not work call Nikon digital 1-800-645-6689.

Nikon d80 problem (err flashing with r09 in the lcd display)

I belive this isn't a fault but more to do with how you are using the camera. The r09 message is to do with the camera buffer and how many more pictures it can hold. You do have a memory card installed, right? The r09 is normally not an error, but simply an indicator of how many more pictures you can take in the current burst before the buffer fills. The number will vary according to the image quality and size settings.

D80 SLR lens /flash prob lem

What are your other lenses? If they're not AF lenses, you're not going to get autofocus or metering.

Is your flash not working when popped up? Remember that the flash won't pop up automatically in Manual mode.

Compare the Nikon d80 to the new d90. Can I use all my manual focus lenses from my Nikon film cameras? Also, all my filters and flashes.

All old lenses will work on the D90 the same way they work on the D80. Filters depend on the lens -- they either fit or they don't -- the camera has nothing to do with that. I wouldn't use old flashes on new DSLRs.

There really is no difference between the D80 and the D90 as far as lenses and flashes are concerned.

Control Panel display no information.

Do you mean the control panel on top or the big LCD on the back?

The display on top should be showing you stuff like the shutter speed and aperture as you take the picture.

The display on the back will not show you the picture while you're taking it. The D80 does not have a Live View capability.
