HP530 shuts down within 15 seconds as it loads XP

HP530 shuts down within 15 seconds as it loads Windows XP whether from the hard drive of the Installation disks. If I go to the BIOS screens and run a hard drive self-test or a memery test, the laptop will stay up all day. Have changed hard drive and memory to no effect.

I have tried the last known good configuration and every iteration of the safe mode to no avail. This occurs even when I am trying to install the operating system from the EOM disks onto a blank hard drive.

Probabpy an XP problem, start XP in safe mode (press F8) as it is loading.
If it runs then it is probably a driver problem. Try restarting in the last good configuration. Keep posting until the problem is resolved.

New hard drive operating system not found

The reason why you cannot install Windows on your hard drive is this model Sony has a SATA disk controller.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

My Compaq Presario 700 CM2130 failed to boot one day out of the blue. It just gave me an error message saying Operating System Not Found. I put in the disk for Windows XP and after a few minutes of loading...

When you get to the BIOS window, do you get a message saying that is going to shut down in some period of time of does it just shut down?

Here is my best guess and solution. I believe you've got a worm virus. If you have nothing that you want on this hard drive, and you've got a full install Windows XP disk, I'd do a full install with a complete format, not a quick format, FAT32, if you can, NTFS, if you can't and reinstall Windows XP.

Install windows XP

You sure your HD isn't bad? You could try a low-level format and then try to install, I am assuming you don't mind loosing any data already on the disk.

Load a new hard drive

Hi Dutshy1,

On back of the hard drive did you move the jump on your main hard drive and set it to Master and your secondary hard drive set to Slave.

Where the jumper is suppose to go is printed on the sticker on top of your hard drive.

The jumper is the little plastic thing on the back of the hard drive connecting two pins together next to the power port and where the IDE cable is suppose to connect.

let me know if that works.
