Question about LaCie (300978) DVD RW Dual Layer Burner
When I load any media (CD or DVD) in the drive, the green light blinks as though it is reading it, then stops and never loads the media.
I tried to connect via firewire and USB. I made sure that it was the only drive connected at the time. The computer recognizes the drive in the System profiler and in toast, but when I put a disc in CD or DVD it does not read it. The green light on the front blinks rapidly for a second or so then suddenly stops without mounting the disc. I also attached a screen shot from toast, when it reads "no disc".
I am Running MAC OS X 10.4.11 on a single processor G5
When was the last time you cleaned the dust out of the laser head? Or your PC, for that matter? Just asking.
There are cleaner disks that work sometimes, or you can go in with a cleaner foam swab with a little alcohol on it. Worth a try.

You should check for corruption of your CD/DVD burning software from whereever you got it. Sometimes some burning software isn't good enough to work adequately. I'd test some new burning software to see if that is the problem, if upbrading your burning software doesn;t do the trick. You can downlowad free trials of Roxio, NTI, and other good burners to test this hypothesis. And, of course, try calling LaCie support.
