More info please, laptop, desktop, cable-modem, or dial-up, brand of computer is usefull too. If cable modem, use a LAN cable(LOCAL AREA NETWORK) it looks similar to a phone cord, and plugs into the back of a desktop, or side of a laptop.
For more than 1 computer, you'll need a router of some kind.
Internal dial-up modems are a whole nother thing, if you need one of these you may want to take it somewhere and have a pro put it in, especially if its a laptop.

I used to have 5 computers hooked to a DLINK router (DI-707) for a LAN and the router hooked to a modem for internet. I changed IP and got a pk500 modem. I can plug 4 computers to the pk500 and get...

This might actually has nothing to do with the router itself, you may need to call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and let them know you have a new router. They may have to configure it themselves because some modems are not plug-and-play (which means when you get a new router, the modem doesn't automatically recognize the new router.) So, your best bet right now is to call your ISP and they will walk you through it. I faced a similar issue and finally got through by simply calling my ISP, calling the router's manufacturer may do nothing, at least it didn't for me.
Try this: Unplug all internet cords, unplug all power cords. Wait about 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Connect your router to the modem with one internet line, into to the appropriate ports. Next, plug your modem into the power source, and let it run for approximately 4 minutes (or until all of the lights are on and it is ONLINE.) It varies per modem on when it is 100% online. Next, plug your router into the power source, and wait until it loads 100%. Then try plugging into one of your computers, not all, one, and preferably using Windows Operating systems because they detect internet more easily than Mac.
If all else fails, one more troubleshooting to do, and that is to plug your computer DIRECTLY from the modem to the computer via internet cord, bypassing the router. If you get internet from the modem, then it is supposed to work, the router could be the issue. If you are NOT getting the internet, then the modem is the issue.
Lastly, I really think calling your ISP would solve the issue all together. GOOD LUCK!

I don't know how to install it. What plugs in

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

How do i find my dial up modem?

On the lower half back of the computer there are slots. Some of these are filled, some may be empty. This is where you will find what are commonly referred to as ad-on cards. On newer computers that have a dial-up modem will be installed using an ad-on card in one of these slots. Most times at the very bottom. There is also a possibility that a dial-up modem is what's know as on-board. It will be located again on the back, in the panel that has all the other on-board devices such as the keyboard, mouse, monitor (if it's on-board video), audio device plugs and usually the Ethernet plug for the cable modem.
Although I have to tell you that most newer computers now will not come standard with a dial-up.
Hope this helps.

Basically if your Internet service is DSL or cable it's just a plug and play. Just plug the computer to the modem once the Internet access has been activated by your ISP and your computer should automatically get connection from the modem.

Make sure you know your ISP username and password.
Make sure you have an ethernet connection on the back of your computer
  1. Disconnect your modem from your computer.
  2. Plug the router into the power socket
  3. Plug your router into your PC via an ethernet cable.
  4. Run the router setup wizard.

Can't get router to work after disconnection.

Try setting it up as follows, if its not working come back on and let us know.

Plug in the modem power.
Plug in the router power.
Plug in one ethernet cable from the modem to the internet port or WAN port of the router.
If not wireless, plug a second ethernet cable into the "1" port of the router and the other end of that cable to the computers LAN or ethernet port.

Attempt to get on a website.
If this is unsuccessful, restart the modem by unplugging the power cord from the modem, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in.
Unplug the router, wait for 15 seconds then plug it back in.

Still doesn't work?
On your computer, hit Start>Run>type cmd in the text box and hit enter.
A window will open up with a cursor.
Type ipconfig /release
Hit enter.
Type ipconfig /renew
Hit enter.

Try once again to access a website. If this is unsuccessful, return this site and let us know what steps you have tried.

Hope this helps.

is that a question? There are no plugs in a modem, unless you are using a very old external modem. You need to be more specific.

DI 624- Cant connect from router to computer

Hi mark - please don't rate this til it's fixed. Hook it up the way you had it. i.e. modem>router>pc. Try it, probably won't work. Unplug the power on your modem and the router. After 60 seconds plug in your modem. When all the lights return to normal (except the activity light), plug in your router. Give it 20 seconds or so. Try it and let me know what happens. Thanks.

For SMC7904WBRA :: How to use Cable Modem on ADSL router/modem

Looks like your device does not support playing router for cable internet. Would recommend you get an actual router, or alternately if you have a computer with two network adaptors you could plug one into cable modem, plug other in to LAN side of router, then configure turn Windows Internet Connection service, will need to disable the DHCP service on the router. I highly recommend you get a real cable/dsl router to do this tho. Linksys 54g series has been one of my favorites. Router homepage on SMC site.
