Recently downloaded the firmware updated for Samsung BD-P1200 Blue Ray player. Burned an image to cd. Followed the instructions to do cd update. But the player never shut down and now on power up .....the message load appears and you can not open cd tray to make another attempt at update or play a DVD. Is there a way to bootstrap the player and reload the default firmware from an eprom or is the unit now rendered useless. Have a lot of experience doing firmware updates and this is a first. Tried to update to ver 2 firmware update. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Download and manually update the firmware to version 2.4 for the BD-P1400 from the Samsung site. Burn the image (ISO) to a CD or CD-RW. It will take 20 minutes to do the update. The internet update will not fix the problem. It fixed the problem for me.
READ the PDF file under Upgrade Guide. Make sure you designate the proper file type when burning CD. Check your burning software.

If it ain't broke,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as they say, as blue ray is still very new, is there an upgrade??? If there is you need to get a download from Samsung, burn to a disc, and load it into your player. But if it goes wrong, as I know it can, you may as well throw the player out. So if it's working ok, leave it so.
hey same problem here, but I just downloaded the CD version anyways... then dropped the .RUF file onto my desktop, selected it, burnt it to a CD-R (RW will also work) and popped it into the BD-P1500, so far it seems to be running along steadily in the update process... hope this solves your problem.
I too had this problem with Qauntum of Solace, I could get past the teasers and the warnings but when it gets to the main menu I select PLAY and it just stops at 00:00.
The firmware upgrade fixed it!
However I had to make a CD because the LAN method said I already had the latest version.
I downloaded Ver 2.5 from Samsung support site - ( http://pages.samsung.com/us/bluraysupport/support.html)
Then I needed to get Nero Burning ROM software (windows version) to burn an IMAGE of the .ISO file
(I use a Mac and just burning the file onto a CD didn't work)
You have to follow these instructions to the letter - ( http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=us&CttFileID=1488556&CDCttType=FM&ModelType=C&ModelName=BD-P1200&VPath=FM/200710/20071012103832890_BD-P1200_CD_Update_Process.pdf )
Finally the player recognized the firmware and did the upgrade to 081119_T22F_0924.07_XAA
Voila, QoS now plays without a hitch.
i fixed this exactly as previous posted solutions, however a couple of points.
a) recordable CDs work if you don't have a DVD burner.
b) I didn't have a CD burner that would do an "image burn", I downloaded a free copy of "Express Burn" and that worked fine. The disk needs to be "finalised" or "fixated", it should do this automatically, or it may be a tick box selection.
c) I got a "No DWLD 09" when I put the disk into the player. I found this was an incompatibility with the CD-R (Maxwell) I was using. I changed to JVC and it worked fine.
Regarding this issue, the only way to resolve this issue to download a Firmware update from samsung.com
Here is the link where you can download this Firmware update:
Download first the manual on how to update firmware for your unit then download the FIRMWARE file.
basically what you need to do is to download this Firmware update to your computer then burn it on a Disc using nero after that let it play to your Blu-ray player to do an automatic firmware update for your player.
Hopes this helps.
