My camera lens will not open. When I turn it on the lens acts like it is going to open, but then it shuts again after it is about a fraction inch out. It started three days before x-mass. HELP!!!!!!!!!

    Olympus Stylus 700 - year and 1/2 old. 7.1mp

Lens will open 1/4 inch stop and retracts, tries again doing same, then shuts off. Took one picture at Christmas dinner of kids at table and went to take picture of adults and this happened.

What can I do to fix this myself. Had two kodak camera's with different problems and out of warranty also, was more to fix then to buy another... I believe this is manufacturer fault with very little camera usage since bought new.

my camera has a problem that when i start its lens comes out and goes back and screen become blue and doesn't show anythings model 710

I had the same problem as described camera was working fine for about 2 years now, and then out of nowhere, the lens wouldn't open. I could hear it struggling to briefly open, but then the screen would flash a bright white light and then turn off. I tried the second solution offered below--opened the USB port and then tilted the camera downward as I turned it on -- and it worked! I'm not too happy about having to do this every time as opposed to it just working correctly; but it beats paying to have it fixed.

On another note, has anyone had trouble with images coming out blurry? I use the blur reduction option and change settings based on lighting, etc., but without explanation, a lot of my pictures come out slightly (or sometimes very) blurred.

I found tilting my camer downwards towards the floor and removing the usb cover and then turning the camera on worked, I am unsure if its a faulty motor or slightly damaged lens but once it's retracted the camera works fine - this was a test I was able to repeatedly do.

Opening the camera did not display any visible faults although with the housing off it did operate better. this will unfortunatly remove some the cameras weather proofing in the way opening a splash resistant watch will mean it no longer can be used near to water, this is due to the fact these cameras are factory made, also you risk dust getting in.

I have picked up another Olympus with the same fault on eBay it would appear the 760 model also suffers from this same problem

I had the same exact issue. LISTEN UP I CAN FIX THIS. I began disassmbly and removed the outer shell of the camera (after I realized my warranty was no longer valid of course). I found that with the majority of the outer shell removed the lens opened again... Hmm I thought, Curious.

I will cut to the chase. My theory: the "waterproof seals" don't allow for an adequate change in volume within the sealed cavity when the lens is fully opened. You can see the seals going concave and convex as the camera struggles to open the lens. it can't. I am not sure why this issue develops over time. But who cares I have an easy way to fix it.

SOLUTION: Break the seal every time you open your lens. Sounds like a bad solution at first. EXCEPT you can break the seal by simply opening the DC USB port that you would normally open download you pics. So just right of the dial pop open the DC USB cover. Turn on your camera opening the lens and take as many pictures as you want. Also once the lens is out feel free to close the USB port cover to prevent water damage.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

My 3 yr old Olympus stylus 710-all weather camera is displaing D : 5f08 and 5e02, the lens will open after pressing the power button than go blurry, it than closes...Any chance in a quick/easy fix? Noticed...

There is a chance you can fix this. It sounds like the focusing ring is stuck or jammed. What you can try to do is spray some compressed air ($4 at Walmart) into the lens to try to free up any sand or dust that may have worked its way in. If that doesn't help, you can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
If that doesn't help, the camera will have to be totally disassembled to get at the focusing ring. It's quite a job, but not impossible, just requires patience and remembering what goes where and how.
I wouldn't bother about having the camera repair, since the cost of repair would probably be more than a new one.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

this is the most common problem with the olympus cameras the lens has been knocked and by you pulling on the lens it sounds like you have done some damage to the motor that bring the lens in and out thats why its making that noise what you needed to do was move the lens either to the left or the right you will no when its fixed because the lens just pops out and the camera will be fine this works every time i just hope you havnt done to much damage alredy goodluck

Turn on camera. Blurry pic. Wirly grinding noises. Blue screen.

Sometimes smacking the **** out of it fixes it. Today it doesn't seem to do the trick any more.
