Question about Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Cannot Assemble Dyson DC17

Just purchased a Dyson DC17 Absolute vacuum cleaner yesterday at Kohls here in San Antonio, TX.  Although I've tried and tried this morning, I cannot get the wand inserted into the hose.  I called Dyson support this morning and they advised me that it should thread into the hose without problems (ha!).  The tech support representative suggested using a small amount of talcum powder.  Do you need to be Hercules to insert the wand?

I'm having the same problem. I can't get the handle attached to the hose. the instructions that came with the vacuum don't tell you how to actually assemble it. Very frustrating.

Press the button on the side of the wand that detaches it from the main vacuum and try pushing it into the hose, let me know if this doesn't work

Why does my DC17 Animal vacuum keep shutting off?

Hi Emmeline,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. From what you've described, it sounds as if the thermal cutout feature is shutting the machine down to prevent overheating. If you've already tried washing the filter and are still experiencing the issue, I'd encourage you stop using the cleaner and to contact us directly so we can help. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email askdysonUS@dyson.com. We'll look forward to hearing from you.

I caught the rug in my dyson animal dc17 and now the bar doesnt work, belts fine' motor still comes on and reset doesnt work...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulties with your DC17. The brushbar is designed to cut out if obstructed, so although you've tried resetting it, I'd suggest taking a look at the video below to check everything is correct with the machine.

Please note, the brushbar will not run when the cleaner is standing upright, so recline it into the vacuuming position before you test it. It's also a good idea to press the brushbar on/off button twice to make sure it's not set to the 'off' position.

You might also want to run through the steps shown in our online support guide:

My Dyson Absolute DC17 is becoming difficult to push

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If the cleaner seems to have become difficult to push, you may want to check that the base of the soleplate is clean. If it appears to be dirty, you can clean it using a damp cloth - always make sure it's totally dry before replacing it on the cleaner.

While you have the soleplate removed, it's a good idea to check that the cleaner head is free of blockages, and that the brushbar is free of any threads or hair. For guidance on removing the soleplate and performing these checks, please see follow the steps shown in our support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=955&product=DC17-ANIMAL

If the soleplate appears to be damaged, or if you find that following these steps doesn't resolve your issue, please get in touch with us directly so we can provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

Loss of suction Dyson Absolute dc17

More than likely the sole plate on the botom of the cleaner is plugged, take the bottom plate off and clean it out, also make sure your brush is clean and not full of hair. This is common on this vacuum
