    Thankyou Tom,

I tryed to change the power saving setings, but i do not think this is the problem. It turns off, i turn it on, and it turns it selff off again and i have to push Fn+F6 to turn it on again.. and so on. This happens randomly.. it happend three times in a minute or once in a whole day. This does not affect my system or software running. Just the display turns it self off ( or in power saving mode - as the function Fn+F6 it is called )..
    Still wayting for ideeas

    Hi Tom,

I do not have ePower :( ( i use win XP on this machine - is this an aplication that i forgot to install? ). I don,t think this is a power saving setting that is wrong put. Today the display did not go off but other days it switches on power saving for 5-6 times in a row after i light it on. It drives me nuts. I don,t understant what causes this.

What is the power invertor? a bad power flux could be the cause of this? ..
The backlight is ok in my oppinion since i can turn it on by pressing a button. The turn off thing is a software decision that my computer takes but what causes it...?
    I,m still searching
Thanx a lot for all the assistance..

Then it seems that the backlight or power inverter in the screen is going bad.

Try using the "Turn Off Monitor" function under Acer's ePower Management, or alternatively, go to "Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Power Options" although if you have ePower, that will just take you there.

Check whether you have turn off the monitor or not. Press FN + F6, this will helps to turn on the monitor. You can able to view the picture of light on the F6 key. If not F6 then you need to identify the symbol and press with FN key.

Please let me know whether this works or not.

How do i find hotkeys on acer aspire 5515 laptop

The Hotkeys are;

1) Fn (Function Key) + F1 = Hotkey Help; Displays help on Hotkeys

To go on anyway;

2) Fn + F2 = launches Acer eSettings Management in Acer Empowering Technology.

3) Fn + F3 = Launches Acer ePower Management in Acer Empowering Technology.

4) Fn + F4 = Puts the computer in Sleep Mode

5) Fn + F5 = Toggle the laptop from it's monitor to an external monitor, or use both.

6) Fn + F6 = Screen Blank > Turns the Display Backlight off to save power. Press any key to return.

7) Fn + F7 = Touchpad toggle > Turns the internal Touchpad on and off.

8) Fn + F8 = Speaker toggle> Turns the speakers on and off

9) Fn + Right Hand Triangle > Brightens the LCD screen

10) Fn + Left Hand Triangle > Decreases the LCD screen brightness

Acer Aspire 5515 Service Manual ( Free)

Go down to the second Aspire heading.
The one that starts with Aspire 1200.
Drop down to line 6, then go across to the right, and click on 5515.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
I would suggest upgrading to Adobe Reader 9 (9.3.4.) though, if this isn't the version on the computer.

After you click you may not see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.
The file is downloading in the background.
Usually it takes a few seconds to see the first page, and additional time to fully download.
Suggest you let the file fully download before looking through it.

This is a SERVICE MANUAL, not a User Manual. Much more detailed, including disassembly procedures.

Backlight wont stay on

The inverter board which provides the backlight power isn't working properly. This is a pretty common problem with LCD screens. The inverter is in the display, mounted under the display panel. It's a fairly simple job to replace the inverter. You have to remove the screws holding the front of the display to the back and separate the pieces. The inverter is held in place by a couple of screws and has a couple of cables connecting it to the main board and display panel. Unplug those, remove the inverter, mount the replacement and plug the cables back in. Then reassemble the display. A search on Google for "acer 5315 inverter" turned up several sources for the replacement part. Here is one. I don't know anything about this seller; I just picked it as an example.

ACER cracked screen..external monitor???

Hi there.
The keyboard toggle you are using is the correct one.
Sometimes you have to hit Fn + F5 a couple of times to stay on there is no real set time. Make sure Fn + F6 is on so the laptop screen stays on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My FN+F6 doesnt keep my screen on the laptop open

I think you're trying to output the screen to external monitor right ? So when you press Fn+F6 this will output to external monitor only but if you do it again it will output to both (External and you LCD) and if you repeat the step again you're back to normal.
