Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV480 Digital Camcorder
I have two Sony DCR-HC42 digital camcorders with the same problem. Whenever I insert a tape it slowly goes in. After a while it flashes the error message: "Re-insert Tape."
If I eject the tape it comes out very slowly (or not at all).
It used to be okay if I just reinserted the tape, but now it won't accept any tape.
I tried a head cleaner, which surprisingly seem to fix the problem. But now noting helps.
I have the same problem with the tape in a DCR-TY480. Was intermittent at first, now permanent. Re-setting the camcorder as suggested elsewhere did not help. Less than two years old - 6 months of this problem. Very little use.
The fact the head cleaner seemed to work suggests to me dust may be an issue. Despite not being very old, try using an air canister to clean the inside. I had a similar problem with a vdr and it ended up requiring proper maintenance- the mechanism went faulty itself. Unless you are happy to open yourself and give a general clean, I would consider this. Costly however. Sorry cant be of more use.

Is sounds like something got on the drum/video head ,that is sticky causing the drum not to spin when you put a tape in. You say that putting a tape cleaner in helped, and sometimes they will help ,but tape cleaner are not as good as having it cleaned by someone like me , a qualified Technician.
