Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

HDMI connectivity I recently bought a Samsung LNT-5265FX LCD TV and have been trying to use an HD cable box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HDC) from Time Warner Cable.  Everytime I turn the TV on I get a yellow screen giving me an error message so I unplug the electricity from the cable box, plug it back in and let it go through its "Mystro" process.  I have tried lots of sequences with turning the power off and on but I always wind up having to unplug the cable box and plugging it back in before I can watch the TV.  Any help would be appreciated.

    It says:

    "GS511_HDCP_DLG
Your TV does not allow display of the program through the DVI input source. Please choose another TV input source."

But I'm not using the DVI input source because I'm using the HDMI cable.

Same as everyone else. I bought a 32" Polaroid TV on Blasck Friday. It works with a HDMI cable till the TV is turned off then I get a error message that my TV does not support this connection. The cable box needs rebooted to work with the HDMI again. Works fine with component cables but they look awfull going up the wall to my TV. I've read that a firmware update has been promised for October then December and now who knows when.

What does the error message say?

this seems to be a recurring error with this cable box and many different models/brands of tv's. hdcp refers to "hi definition copy protection" I don't think time warner has fiqured this problem out yet but they are working on it..you should give them a call and see about getting a different brand/type of box. the problem is not with the tv

I have the SA8300HDC STB from Time Warner. I get this error from my DVD recorder, not from my HDMI connection. I've read that the error is due to copy protection. The only solution I've read about has to do with a new Samsung Set-top box from TWC. Funny this copy protection error didn't ever come up with my old VCR connection to the HDTV. TWC apparently told a lot of people that the problem would be solved by a software update from TWC in October 2007 & then in December 2007. Guess TWC isn't sure what the problem is but everyone who has mentioned this Samsung cable box has reported success with their HDMI connection.

I was able to get a Samsung STC-W3050 Cable box. You won't get the HDCP error but this box does not feature a DVR which was my problem, trying to make copies of recorded programs from the DVR.

How do I connect a Sony DVD DVP-SR210P to a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4240 HDC and a Sylvania TV C320SLX?

I am not sure you can connect your DVD player to your cable box. You should be able to connect both your cable box and DVD player to your TV set with two HDMI cables. This link is a pdf_usecares file of the TV manual that shows how to hook up your dad and cable box.

Hope this helps.

Picture/audio problems on my HDTV

This is a cable box problem. Could be a lack of signal stregnth or bad HDMI output.

The SA boxes have a very bad history of this, try using the component video output and see if the problem persists.

The HDMI is a real glass jaw of those boxes; but this problem could absolutly be your incoming signal...high def channels require more signal strength and that is what causes audio drops, pixilation and flicker.

If it was the HDMI in the receiver/tv you would get:

- Black screen, Pink fuzz or green streak dropouts.
- "Fireflies"
- Audio cutting in and out
- Not pixilation!

So what is my approach? If the box is rented or under warranty get it replaced. If the problem persists then call your cable company and arrange a service call at their expense.

If the box is not under warrenty go ahead and call the cable company and complain about a poor signal. If the signal is good, use the component video output...it looks almost identical anyway.

Let me know if this helps,

Cheers!

Called the cable provider, Time Warner, and used the "settings" menu to navigate to power on channel, where I selected the default channel.

HDMI cable hooked up, now CLOSED CAPTIONING is stuck on!

It has got to be the box. I would try to contact Scientific Atlanta if any way possible. The TV doesn't choose what inputs it shows CC.In other words, it would show it on all Inputs if it was the TV. Good luck and Thanks

I would like to hook up my components without having to turn on the receiver to watch tv from DVR or Cable if possible. I have Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HD Cable DVR w/HDMI out, Samsung TV w/HDMI ,...

You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.

Television Won't Display Certain Cable Shows

Okay,i assumed this is what you have:
HD cable box with HDMI cable connection to the Samsung TV.
Listen careful as follow:
First you want to make sure using the same HD comcast box with HDMI connection for our Samsung TV as well as your other TV.Be sure the other TV do received the missing channels from the Samsung TV.You must be SURE you have tested both TVs with the same HDMI cable with the SAME HD cable box.
Now that you have confirmed the both TVS are using the same HD comcast box and the same HDMI cable but the connection that goes to the Samsung TV are missing some channels,at this point, use another HDMI connection behind your Samsung TV and see if you have the same problem. If so,please also try the left side of the HDMI connection and see if you could get the other channels.
Let me know!
