Word 2007 Formatting problems

I have word 2007 installed on both my laptop and desktop. I create a document on the desktop then save it as docx. When i open this doc on my laptop, it's not 2 pages anymore but 2 and a half. All the page parameters, eg paragraphs... do stay the same. Any idea please how to solve that cause it's really annoying.

Re: Word 2007 Formatting problems

Dear alyrian, this might be because of your line spacing settings. Go to formatting and reduce line spacing between lines and it should fit to 2 pages. You also might like to verify that font and text size is same in both documents.

Make sure you haven't written any additional text. Try to check spacing between paragraphs too.

If that was helpful please press 'fixya'

Problem with section numbers not being linked in a word document that I'm updating using word 2007. The original document was created with an earlier version of Microsoft word.

When you create or open and edit a (.docx) document in Microsoft Word 2007, the Save As option gives you the opportunity to save it as a the (.doc) document in the formats of older versions of Word.

If it is not already too late, try to recover (using the AutoRecovery function built-into Microsoft Word 2007) , the earliest and most error-free version of the document in question you can recover and then use Save As, rather than Save to make an experimental copy of the document in an older Microsoft Word format.

Another option to consider is to download and install the free Office Suite Application Open Office, which can open, edit and manage many Microsoft Office documents and then copy and paste the most error-free version of the document in question into the appropriate Open Office Program and then see what sort of job the Open Office Word Processor makes of handling the tricky formatting.

For the future, as a general rule, whenever editing any document that contains complex formatting, always remember to start by copying and pasting the text of the original document into a new blank document (remembering to close the original document so you don't accidentally toggle between the two). Then your experiments could be conducted on a copy of the document, rather than the original, enabling you to repeat the method and continue creating experimental copies freely, until you have developed a workable strategy for dealing with the formatting issues.

Furthermore, remember to always use the Save As function, giving the experimental documents distinct and varying names (test.doc1, test.doc2, test.doc3 etc.) so you can keep track of your progress in mastering the formatting issues, then each document you save, is a copy, leaving the original document unchanged and available as a template for further experimentation, if necessary.

Microsoft Home and Office Student product key

Your program (ms-office) has been upgraded to Office 2007, and so you are asked for the License key. If you would like to use it, your only means is to uninstall the program and again reinstall your program. And remember if you don't like to upgrade to office 2007, don't install additional upgrades. There's a problem when you open an office 2007 on your previous version, but you can solve it by telling to those who send files to you. Let them save the file in the previous version format, if they save it in the office 2007 format, you'll not be able to open it. The file extension of previous version office is .doc but the new version has .docx, they can still save it in .doc format. You can convert .docx format using converter, but i don't recommend, you might loose formatting. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Problems with .docx files

For infomration on Office 2007 .DOCX file format, refer to

I use Office 2003, and have installed and currently employ the "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint File Formats" mentioned in article. This is, for the most part, seamless when reading in Office 2007 .DOCX or .PPTX files, for examples, in Office 2003.

Otherwise, in Office 2007, you can change and set your Word Options so that you can save files in a specific format, including a previous Office version to ensure compatibility.

Hope this makes sense... Good Luck!

Im using MS 2003... i just both this new pc for my house... my problem now we are using in the office MS 2007... all the my files now i cant open here in my house... i want to download MS 2007 to upgrade...

Office 07 default to 2 new extensions instead of the old .doc extension. 07 uses .docx or .docm (m is for documents containing macros).

If the document is just a standard one, you can go into file save as in 07 and save as.. 2000/03 compatible. 07 then saves the document with a .doc extension (this loses some of the nicer formatting 07 introduces but still looks ok). Then you can open the document at home.

If you cant rename the file as it is locked or something, then go here >

And download the compatibility pack. This lets you open these .docx/m documents with 2000/03 office.

Save as Office 2003 or XP (or earlier) not as 2007 (which creates a .docx [note the x!] file which is different from a .doc file and which cannot be read by any other program than Office 2007 -which most people do not have)

This is probably your problem.

I have had no problem in saving to .doc and transferring files to other people.
