I've been losing internet connection for hours at a time, then it comes back on. Running a D-link DCM-202. Comcast says the modem is failing. Is that likely?

Did your Internet Service Provider "rent" or "loan" or "sell" the modem to you?

If it is "rent" or "loan", then they will exchange it, if they want to keep you as a PAYING customer.
If they don't, return it to them, and switch to a different Internet Service Provider.

If it is "sell", then they should have included a 1-year or 2-year or 3-year "warranty" on it.
Exercise the WARRANTY to get it repaired/replaced.

Hi, I’m facing one issue with D-Link (DCM-202) Modem from last week. The internet connection frequently disconnecting with interval time less than 10 min. I have checked with service provider COM CAST...

Is this a new issue or a recent harware/cable change or did this use to work and now has the disconnect issues.

Ensure that your cable has NO Splitters (especialy outside) from the Drop outside to your modem.

Check all cableing between Computer and Modem to Cable Drop.

You can also look at the Modem Status Page to check your UpStream and DownStream signals. You may have to have someone come out to check out the line running from your house to the pole (or pedestal if its underground)? Many factors can cause an outside cable to deteriorate, and when that happens you can end up with alot of signal leakage and frequent disconnects. And that goes for both overhead and underground lines. Good Luck, and post back if you need more help. (try to include your Modem Status Logs)

The d-link modem i bought online has a blacked out serial number under another on a sticker and seller claims that the modem is new and I can't get it to work with comcast internet

This model of modem was discontinued by the manufacturer in June of 2005. That's a long time to be sitting on a shelf somewhere. There is no guarantee that it was working in the first place, either.

The only advice I can offer on this is to seek recourse with the seller.

Comcast is my service provider and I have had an RCA DCM 245R modem for almost 10 years. Until recently it has worked fine. On an ever increasing basis I am losing internet connection and when I look at...

Hi,

It can be an issue with the modem or with the line. When the line drops the link then the modem shows only two lights. And, when you power cycle the modem (unplug and replug it) it establish the session again with the comcast.

So, i'll suggest you to get the line checked first and if comcast finds that line is working fine then get the modem replaced.

How do I lock my modem using password?

You open up Internet Explorer and type in your i.p address, example : 192.168.0.2, you can normally find your i.p address in network connections, and open the internet connection up, and click on details and your i.p address should be there. once you are on your ip address settings, click wireless settings and then there should be security options, and then you can put security on.

Reply back if this doesnt work.

Thanks.
