Its a capacitor problem that is easily solved by a do-it-yourselfer.
Google dvp642 and c316 (location of the cap on the board). A simple
inspection will tell you if its bad and you can replace the cap out of
Radio Shack for a couple bucks. Im doing it to a player right now...I
have the bad capacitor out and just need the replacement. The bad cap
will be bulged up on the top. It looks like a black barrel w/ an
aluminum top. Its located on the main board that the power cable is
attached to. You will find forums which describe the repair and
replacement part in detail. Good luck!
Iz found in my dealings the majority of these problems were either caused by the power supply printed circuit board, or in lesser extents the main printed circuit board. check the capacitance of the capacitors on the power supply. good luck.

It sounds as if you are lacking accessory power to the unit. Insure that the red wire of the Pioneer unit is receiving 12 volts with the key in the accessory and on position.
Have you tried the manual option? Turn on your DVD player. Press "TV" or maybe a different button for DVD players, then a red light on your remote blinks once. Then hold both the "up" volume and "up" channel button down until your red light is permanently on. Then whilst holding your remote control 1mm away from your DVD player signal light (usually red too), hold down the "power" button until your dvd player switches off. Then switch it on again and try other buttons. However, I've only tried this on an LG TV, but took me 2 days until I really put the remote in front of that signal light. Took about 1 minute or more while holding down the "power" button. Hope it works =)
sorry that definately means that the battery is defective if it is still under warranty i would advice returning it please make payment as soon as possible thank you also if you need help finding a battery i would be happy to help
I fixed this problem in my DVP642 by replacing a capacitor on the main power board where the power chord hooks in. Take the top cover off (after unplugging player). You'll be able to locate the bad capacitor on the circuit board located on the very right. Look for location marked c316 on the circuit board. A bad capacitor will be bulged up on top. The capacitor you're looking for will be a black barrel shape with an aluminum top, this aluminum top will be bulged up or leaking on the circuit board. Replace this capacitor by desoldering the two leads into the board and replacing with an identical part you can pick up at Radio Shack for a couple dollars. My repair for this identical problem was a success. The blinking light is the tip off for this particular problem on these Phillips models.
