    Thanks ,

I have the extended warranty that better be covered. I will call tomorrow and see what happens. I guess the light engine has nothing to do with the bulb itself. Thanks again..

I have the same issue on my Toshiba 62". I bought it used, with no warranty, but I am an electronics technician so I'm going to take a whack at it myself. What did you have to replace to get the issue resolved?

I have the same issue with my HL-P6163W. It's somewhat annoying but I'll live with it if it's an expensive fix.

It is an optical issue as the light engine has to be replaced to fix the problem. I have seen a few DLP Samsungs do this. Hopefully you have some kind of warranty to repair it.

The light engine houses the DMD board (the million little mirrors) the color wheel, the lamp installis into the light engine and of course all of the optical parts are part of the light engine. Good luck and glad you have a warranty as the light engine is expensive.

Blurry, purple bar across middle of plasma tv screen

Plasma screens are extremely susceptible to getting broken from any impacts to the face of the screen. What you are describing sound very much like distorted or dead pixels. It may not be a fixable issue, you may have to replace the entire unit or live with the purple bar. The reason you don't notice it as much when the screen is dark is because purple is on the darker end of the spectrum, and will be most visible in contrast to lighter ad brighter colors.

I am seeing a shadow down the middle of the tv screen. Darker in the middle 1/3 and lighter on outer 2/3s.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.
Line, faults & possible causes to LCD screen are given with illustrations by the above linked site. Look at it too. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent.

Dark band on left side, Samsung HL-R5668W

the reflecting mirror is likely loose and falling down inside the light reflecting tube. you should have seen the band getting darker and larger,
the small mirror is in front of the lamp and bends the light,
remove the lamp and look down the tube (light path)
