The FAQS for your printer suggest for your problem (banded or strewaked prints) you perform this actions:

  • Perform a manual print alignment
  • Perform a deep print head cleaning
  • Check if all orange tape was removed from print ink tank(s)
  • Select correct Media Type Settings for the paper you are using
  • Change the print quality settings.
If you need guidance on how to perform any of these actions, go to the support page of your printer:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=103&modelid=9388

and in the "Please enter your question..." textbox type "banded printing".

I was printing the other day and each page got lighter and lighter and now it doesn't print anything in black. There's ink in it and I turned off the printer. What else do I need to do to get it to print...

How long has it been since you printer prior to the other day ? If you do not use your printer for some time, the ink will dry out even if it's a new cartridge.

Canon pixma ip500 horizontal bands of non-printing areas

Hi it's Gill again. I've been looking around more on the net and I think the problem is our printers need new printheads which I'm told are spare parts easy to change. Hope this helps. Gill

I am getting white horizontal lines through my color photos when I print them. Is there an adjustment that I need to make in order to eliminate these lines for a clear sharp color photograph?

Banding

Unfortunately, one choice Canon made to keep the price low was to eliminate automatic alignment. That means you have to align the print heads manually—an unusual step for all but the least-expensive printers today. Manual alignment involves printing an alignment page, picking the best-looking choices for each of several alignment samples, and then entering the settings in the printer driver.

Colour printing

If the test patterns are not matching what your printer tells you is normal and your photos are banded horizontally, you may have clogged nozzles and printhead. Do a maintenace clean under your printers direction, and see if it now prints ok. Also, you may be low or out of one particular colour, but still have enough of the others and the printer will try to compensate by using available colours, hence colour banding and distortion. A manual clean with cotton buds and cleansing solution is recommended if the first clean does not help.
