Motherboard Power Problem

Hello Alienware,

Could be a few things.... such as the micro-fuses that have gone on the MB....

But what I dont understand is this:...."Then I disconnect the 4-pin cable that goes from the Power Supply to the motherboard near the CPU and the pc turns on fine"

How????
You have just disconnected the cable from the PSU to the motherboard....it CANT turn on! LOL.

Do you mean that the lights turn on?
Or you hear the HD spin up (if you left it connected to the MB that is)?

Please advise so I can help you more.

First of all disconnect all peropheral connected to your motherboard. Take out Your RAM and clean it with soft clothe. Reinsert ram and restart your PC. If you can get display at this point then shut down your PC connect all peripheral back and restart your PC.

If not you will need to replace your ram.

I have no sound can you help on this

Hi!

You never mentioned if you are using a built in on your motherboard or a sound card hardware...

Anyways... If you are using a built in sound card, make sure it is enable on your CMOS/BIOS setup.. And you have installed the right driver for your sound card from the cd driver of your motherboard...

And if you are using a pci sound card, please check if its properly seated on the motherboard (better if you disconnect the sound card from the motherboard... clean its contact point... and insert it properly on the motherboard)...See the model of your sound card... download the latest driver from the internet and install it.
If this still did not work, better check on the device manager if the sound card is properly installed, if its not it should have a yellow question mark attached to the sound/multimedia devices..

You can also check if windows xp keeps on detecting windows compatible sound driver..how? first, shutdown your computer.. disconnect your sound card from the motherboard...turn on computer..Right click on My Computer and click properties...Select Hardware and click Device Manager...on the View menu click devices by type...double click the "sound, video and game controllers"....if you don't see from the list the model of your sound card, then try disabling or uninstalling the listed audi driver and or multimedia devices..shutdown your computer..

Now connect your sound card to your motherboard.. turn on the computer..System will detect and add new hardware for your sound card.... install the driver... restart your computer and hear if it makes a log on sounds..

Hope this instruction help you.

Much appreciated if you rate this solution.. thanks..

I have a gateway 831gm. it has an Intel (Augsburg) 915G Motherboard and a Pentium 4 630 cpu 800MHz fsb & 2MB L2 cache. i've been looking for a cpu upgrade and saw that the Pentium E5200 Dual Core has...

If both motherboards are LGA775 socket, then the next concern is whether or not the case is capable of having the new motherboard installed into it. Disconnect all power cables to all dv drives or cd drives and hard drives. Disconnect all ribbons from drives to the mother board. If you can get to all of the screws that hold the motherboard into the case, you get away without removing drives. Once you've got the motherboard then you can disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. Remove the memory chips, disconnect the sound cable from the old motherboard. install the memory chips onto the new mobo, Connect the power cable to the new mobo, then install the new mobo into the case. Replace the ribbons from the drives to the mobo, replace the power cables to the drives and reinstall the sound cable to the cd or dv drive. You should be done now.

No disply of my motherboard plzz help mee.

Good day sir/maam, hi, if your motherboard wont turn on, you need to make sure that these 5 things are in good order. (By the way, disconnect everything except these listed 5.)
  1. (PC is on) Your power supply, make sure that the exhaust fan is spinning as you turn it on.
  2. (PC is off) Your memory module, (ddr1 or ddr2) clean the contacts using an eraser(pencil) the gold plate contacts and a clean brush your motherboard memory slot.
  3. connect the casing's pc speaker on the motherboard.
  4. connect a video card, make sure its good. If you are using the motherboard's VGA, dont connect a video card. Temporarily reset the CMOS, use or locate cmos battery jumper setting. usually its 1&2 set the jumper to 2&3, then back to 1&2. connect a good monitor.
  5. Connect a keyboard.
Now power on your PC, check your Keyboard, you should see two sets of lights: first set (NUM LOCK + CAPS LOCK + SCROLL LOCK) then a few seconds the second set (NUM LOCK only). at this point you should hear a beep from the PC speaker.

If not, you may hear 1 long and 3 short beeps. bad video card. OR continous beeps, bad motherboard.

If you did not hear anything, do it all over again several times.

Still not working? replace your motherboard, its bad.

hope this helps.

You should get the motherboard model. There are a lot of motherboards carrying the same chipset so it is hard to determine the pin configuration. A chipset is the main chip used by the motherboard. Other motherboards could use is as well.
