Can I upgrade my acer 5315 memory to 2GB with two 1GBs in two slots or I can put two 2GB slots adding up to 4GB? Thanks

You can upgrade it to 2GB (MAX) if icon_detail.gifMemory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Slots: 2
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

Hope this helps.

I have recently upgraded my brothers Acer T180 computer with approved crucial 2 x 1GB ram ddr2 PC2-5300 667 NON ECC UNBUFFERED CL5 which was scanned by the crucial website and purchased from them. When the...

Some motherboards are only upgradable to their allotted amount that board may only handle up to 2 gigs of RAM which is a shame. But this is the way it is. That is why I always check the board memory capacity before I buy computer boards or RAM for them. The beeps indicate error on the slots for the RAM that is why you can start up when you remove ram one at a time and replace. So use the allotted amount of RAM for that board specification or get another mother board that can handle more than 2 gigs of RAM. Sorry for the loss. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Ram upgrade on Sony Viao PCVRS420

You can use even 1 stick of 2GIG of RAM or 2 X 1GIG of RAM or any combination will do for as long it will just be a max of 2GIG since that's the max support of your motherboard....

Memory

Ok well there could be a few things going on here. It is possible that A: your third stick is damaged which I'm assuming you dismissed through your installation of one at a time, B: the third dimm slot is damaged and is unusable, C: the dimm slot is turned off in your bios.

Now looking at the Shuttle A161 motherboard it would appear you have a primary dimm slot and then expansion dimm slots (technically these are called the controller dimm slot and the estensions)

The controller slot which is offeset from the other two should have your largest ram, make sure the ram you stick in this slot isn't a stick that requires dual recognition. Some ram is designed to work in a pair even in the early PC100 class ram. Most PC100 ram you'll find now requires the sticks to work in pairs and the ram is coded for this. (Especially since PC100 is on its way out very fast.) The expansion slots can be fitted with a pair that will work together. I doubt that your third and primary slot is turned off as it is the controller slot. If none of your ram works in this slot replace the old ram in to this slot and just use the two expansion slots. It may not be as much ram as you want but the motherboard has presets that are just problematic.

My general advice however is, that if you're running this motherboard which is fairly out of date, I'd upgrade to a new computer. Buying a cheap Dell desktop or even a barebones off of newegg.com and transfering your current Harddrive and what not over would probably be easier for you and will carry you for the next five years or so.

Ram upgradation

According to the specifications on the HP website the maximum RAM for your HP is 512MB and you are correct it only has one DIMM slot. So you're only alternative would be to buy a 1GB stick and insert it and try. It will not do any harm, but, you may lose some money because it will only operate at the spec given.

Reg ram upgradation

Each memory slot on the C555NR can support a maximum of 1GB of RAM. There are actually 2 slots, but only one is easily accessible to you. By upgrading both the primary and secondary DIMMs, you could achieve a total of 2GB of memory but you would have to remove the 512mb chip that is already installed and replace it with 1GB (+1GB in the expansion slot as well.)

If you don't plan on taking the computer to a professional to be serviced, you will probably only want to upgrade the memory in the secondary slot located under the memory cover on the underside of the computer. It can handle a 1GB SODIMM.

FYI the memory is:
200 Pin DDR2-533 PC2-4200 SODIMM

Good luck!
