Question about Sony DAV-HDX500 System

Digital Audio selection for HDX500/I

HDX500/I has Optical and Coaxial digital audio inputs... and both an  TV and SAT/CABLE function.    But I see no way to assign which digital audio input goes to TV or SAT/CABLE (like the DAV-IS10 has for example).
I have my cable/dvr optical sound plugged into SAT/CABLE (and video directly to TV). If I want to add another device, say a blu-ray/HD-DVD, I see no way to tell the HDX500/i which that the TV Coaxial sound input is the digital audio for this 2nd device.
On a sidenote, the display iPod menus option onscreen (using DM Port) has never worked.  Not even in a Sony Store.  You just get a blank screen.

I am on my second receiver and still having problems first one would not display any video or play audio from any external input second one no ipod contros displayed as stated in manuals and als will not play audio from my matched 46v3000 tv through the hdmi port only able to control reveiver but does no good if there is no sound

sony has along way to go with this one looks like the have several software problems I will be filing a complaint this is borderline fraud the product does not work as avertised you need to hook up all cabes to tv hdmi for dvd audio and video for satelite or cabel and ipod whitch only provides photos and no controls and when you hook up a digital audio conection it disables all analog audio inputs and output

I couldn't get the ipod display to be visible until I noticed the mode button on the ipod digital media port itself. I connected from the DM Port doc vido out jack to a video in on my video 2 and then pressed the mode buttom on the doc and the menu came up and all worked.

What happended next was the problem - after a few minutes I touched the ipod and saw an electric arch from my hand to the ipod (no carpet btw) and the ipod got frozen.

Thanks - I guess we will just manually change the audio input when we connect the old game box. I think my problem with the static and iPod was the iPod was not seatted fully in the dock. I rebooted the iPod and all is fine. I have the "listen to iPod" on my Harmony 880 universal remote and can just click it and the iPod menu appears on my TV screen just fine and I can navigate with the universal remote. wonderful remote.

How i conecct my receiver to the dish hdtv

First find out if your Dish HD box has an optical or coaxial digital audio out.
Connect this digital out to to the Denon's optical or coaxial input. On the back of the receiver the digital inputs are labeled as DVD or CD/CBL . Remember to select the front input selector of the Receiver according to what ever input you have connected your HD box.
On all TV channels your 5.1 speakers may not work. You can make them work by choosing some of the DSP functions on the Denon remote. Just press the surround button and select Dolby Pro Logic II movies / music. This will convert 2 channel audio to 5.1.

I have a LG47" tv

Your DVD audio is sent directly to your receiver - not to you TV. That's why you can hear the audio on your stereo. The TV audio is not being sent anywhere - it is "stuck" in the TV and is amplified and sent to the TV speakers. Since the TV speakers are off, you don't hear anything. In order to listen to the TV audio on the stereo system's speakers, you need to send it to the receiver.

You need to have a pair (left + right signals) of audio cables (assuming you wish to listen to stereo sound) from the TV's Audio Output jacks to a pair of Audio Input jacks on the receiver / amplifier. You can use any unused input - CD, Video, Tape, Sat, etc. If you use Tape or Sat audio inputs, when you wish to listen to the TV audio, you must select the Tape or Sat input on the receiver.

Do not send more than one signal to a set of inputs on the receiver. Typically, a CD, DVD and Sat inputs offer two or more of the following types 1) Analog audio. These are the older RCA jacks that have been around since the beginning and require separate cables for left and right channels. 2) Optical inputs. This is the newer digital interface that provides for Dolby Digital (and others) format sound over a single fiber optic cable. 3) Coaxial inputs. This jacks looks like an RCA jack, but usually has an Orange ring - instead of the Red & White rings that analog RCA jacks have. They use a single coaxial cable. 4) HDMI input. This jacks carries both digital video and digital audio signals. If you are using an Optical input for the DVD on the receiver, do not use any other unused analog or digital inputs associated with the DVD to "piggyback" another device like a CD , VHS tape, etc.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

I wanted to know if there is a way to hook up the sound from a Panasonic DMP-BD655P-K Blu-Ray player to my existing Yamaha DVX C310SW home theater system. I know I can hook the Blu Ray directly to the TV...

Yes this can be done. You have several options for audio hookup. Stereo 2-channel (white and red) RCA cables, digital audio (optical or coaxial) or HDMI. Your home theater must have the inputs available such as optical, coaxial etc. Typically the stereo 2-channel RCA is the simple way. Just connect from the Bluray audio outputs to the Home theater inputs (white and red) for stereo sound. Select the input on the home theater. For Dolby Digital 5.1 use optical digital audio cable (black port) or coaxial (orange RCA port) from Bluray to similar home theater input.

I just purchased a Coby TV Model number TFTV 3255. I am very happy with the set. However it has only ONE audio output. The manual, on page 7, "coaxial output" ,an optical audio cable is required....

If it is a single output and looks like an RCA type, then I would say that the cable you would need is a digital coaxial cable. The optical input/output will have a different shape and is not as big of an opening as a digital coaxial input/output.

Hi yes i have the jvc RX-8030v and i have a issue with the digital audio in! My dvd toshiba RD-KX50 player does not have a digital coaxil out it only has digital optical out! But on the back of the jvc...

Read you manual, there is a page with a matrix of the audio in selectiosn that can be made for coaxial and optical on each input. Then you have to go into setting button on the right side of the unit and the "push set" knob to change the inputs for the digital audio.
My problem is, I had this all working and went to change the inputs around to add a optical DVD changer and now niether of my optical inputs are working any more. Analog is still fine.

Just need to know how to hook up to tv to get sound

If you don't have a cable box or satellite receiver, you will use the "Audio Out" or "Monitor Out" from the TV to any audio input on the receiver. It's just a standard RCA cable or if you have an "Optical input" on the receiver, use that. If you are using a cable box or sat, the audio would come from the cable/sat receiver by standard RCA, Optical, or Digital Coaxial, whichever your AV receiver will support. Hope this helps. If you need further help, post a comment and I can walk you thru it.

Input signals Marantz SR4003

There are four digital connectors on the back of the unit: 2 optical and 2 coaxial. They are marked a s 1 2 3 4. 1 and 2 are optical, 3 and 4 - coaxial. Also you have front optical connector marked as F.
You can connect 5 digital sources to your receiver. For example, connect your DVD to input 2 (optical) by optical cable and connect your DSS to input 3 by coaxial cable. Assign DVD to digital 2 and DSS to digital 3 in input setup menu.

No TV audio coming from Sony DAV-HDX500.

If you are trying to make your TV audio come out your Sony system, you didn't say what the input to your TV was from (ex;Cable TV,Sat TV).

Sometimes it is easier to take the external (cable or Sat) out puts and feed the video into the TV but the red white into the AMP (TV input)then select TV on your AMP to hear TV.

Also some tv's need to make a speaker choice! go to Set up and change the speaker set up for the TV, you may have to tell the TV no speakers to create out put to Amp from the REd White TV out put.
