TEAC CD/DVD problems

Hmm, sounds different to the usual problems I've come across but try this:
Paste the following into a new text document and "Save As..." type "All Files (*.*)" and call it "DVD Fix.bat"

REG DELETE "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}" /v "UpperFilters /f > NUL
ECHO Press any key to restart the computer.
Shutdown.exe -r -t 0 -f -c "UpperFilters reg key removed to fix CD/DVD-ROM" -d p:2:3

Run the file and restart your computer when prompted.

If you're trying to write to a blank disc, make sure in the drive's properties that you have recording/burning enabled. If you do, try re-installing your CD/DVD burning suite. If you didn't have one, try a system restore.

If this doesn't work or you've disable system restore, you can go into hardware manager and roll-back the driver. If you don't have a roll-back available. uninstall the driver and restart your computer. A default Windows driver should then install.

Check the drive is physically performing - does it load/eject the disc? Does it spin-up? Are you able to read any discs?
I you have any further problems, it would help if we had the model name of your laptop.

I have TEAC DC-28E-N on a Compaq laptop with Windows XP Home. The driver is in error or corrupted. No driver for this DVD/CD-ROM drive is listed on TEAC Web site even though this device is listed as a...

Download, and save the file. Right click on the downloaded file and choose Extract All, then double-click on cdgone.reg Say "Yes" to the merge question and then reboot. See if the drives have returned. You may have to re-install CD burning applications, since they're the ones that tinker with the filter setting in the registry that caused the drives to disappear.

Hope this helps, if you need more information just comment back

Can the "bad" CD-R be properly read on some other computer?
If not, then the disk itself is the problem.

Otherwise, changing from Vista to XP does _NOT_ produce the type of problems that you are reporting.

Internal the pickup assy. (the laser) there are three components that read the discs, one for DVD one for CD and one for the DVD-ROM its likely that the DVD-ROM laser has gone out. Take the drive out and get the part number and look it up online on ebay or the like :-)
