Question about Operating Systems

Nero INCD I had installed Nero Express with INCD 3.39.0 and I was able to format CD RW to use as floppy discs etc. Then had a computer fault and computer mender installed updated Nero 7 version and removed my INCD.I have re installed INCD 3.39.0 but can't get it to open up. Icon is on task bar at bottom of screen but can't find it on Start -All Programs-? It is not anywhere and not under Nero either. I have re started computer but not fixed problem. As I have Nero 7 is there a programme on that that works exactly THE SAME as INCD? I want to be able to use either CD R or CD RW as a floppy disc. Am not that computer literate and don;t want to try any of the "back up programmes" that are on Nero and I don;t know what I am doing. I want to have a copy of a word document with JPEG photos copied onto it somewherer safe off the computer hence the INCD request. I also want to be able to work on the origina word document on the computer then save it to the CD BUT I need the computer copy to replace the copy ion the CD - not as well as. Would any of the Nero programmes do what I want. Help!! Thanks

Want to erase/overwrite a music cd, how do do this with windows xp

Hi marniquematt
You can do this only with CD RW discs , not with CD R discs . Under Windows XP , load a CD RW in the drive , right-click on the icon in " my computer " and select the desired operation . You can also use specific softwares for these operations , like Nero , CD Creator ... and many others .
Best regards ,

How to format a disk

  1. Formatting and Installing from the Windows XP CD
    • 1 This section explains how to reformat a drive from the Windows XP installation CD. This can be used when installing a fresh copy of Windows onto a computer. Here it is especially important to backup all of your important information because upon formatting you will lose EVERYTHING that used to be on the drive. This includes all applications and device drivers, so you must back up everything you can.
    • 2 Insert your Windows XP installation disc into your CD drive (Home or Pro--it does not matter).
    • 3 Now as you computer boots a little more it will say "Press any key to boot from CD.." press a key to do so.
    • 4 The CD will load up a blue screen and then spend a while loading files it needs. When it is finished it will list a few options, mainly "Press ENTER to set up Windows XP." Press Enter or Return.
    • 5 Now you will be at a screen to select where to install Windows to. This is where you can delete old partitions and format drives. The box in the bottom half of the screen shows all your drives and the partitions that exist on them. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to highlight your "C:" partition and press the 'D' key (if all that shows up is "Unpartitioned space" and you have no C: or D: partitions, skip this step). On the next screen press the 'L' key to finalize deleting the partition.
    • 6 Now you are back on the screen to choose where to install Windows. The box on the lower half of the screen should no longer show a partition but simply have an entry "Unpartitioned space xxxxxMB." Select this with the arrow keys and press the 'C' key to create a partition on the drive. The next screen tells you the minimum and maximum sizes the partition can be and lets you pick the size. The default size is the maximum, but double check that the number entered is the maximum and hit enter.
    • 7 Now you will again be back at the choose where to install Windows screen. But this time you will have a partition that looks something like this "C: Partition1 [New (Raw)]xxxxxxMB." Highlight this entry and press enter.
    • 8 The next screen lets you choose which file system to format the drive with. Choose NTFS as it is faster and more secure. If the drive is brand new and has never been used before then use one of the options that ends in "(Quick)." Or, choose one of the lower down options. Use the arrow keys to select the proper one and press Enter or Return.
    • 9 From here you are all set and the installation of Windows will proceed starting with a format of your drive. This will take a while (over half an hour) so you can take a little break.

Format a CD or DVD

Before you can copy files to a CD or DVD, the disc must first be prepared using a process called formatting. There are several ways to format a CD or DVD disc. Your choice of format determines which computers and other devices will be able to read the disc.

  2. In the dialog box that appears, click Burn files to disc.

  3. In the Burn a disc dialog box, type a name for your new disc.

If you have formated your CD/CDRW into the Nero "INCD" format, you have to install the Nero INCD software to another PC so as to read & copy the contents on your formated CD.

Hope it helps.

I am unable to format a DVD-RW disc on my Windows XP computer

Typically, you use DVD/CD writing software to write files to the disc.
There is no 'formatting' involved.
If, however, you want to use a DVD/RW disc as a "big floppy" then you need special software for that. What software came with your DVD writer? or You can use free "Nero InCD", -> Download

Hope it helps.

For OS XP, you must have at least, WinXP Service Pack 2 installed.

How do I format a disc (DVD or CD) on Windows XP?

You only format a CD/RW or a DVD/RW, which are re-writeable.

Regular discs do not need to be formatted (CD-R or DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R DL, etc.).

To format the DVD/RW idisc, use the "burner" software ( Sonic?, Nero?) and choose [Tools] [Erase Disc] (erase is the same as format)

Blue Screen of death with Re-writable CD`s and DVD`s.

First I would go to the Control Panel > System > Hardware > device manager. There go to cd-dvd drives and right click on the cd drive and then click un-install. Restart your unit then test it,

If that does not work, I would un-install InCD, then re-install it. On Nero's website there a un-installers for Nero and InCD.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Cann't write in cd/dvd

DVD writing isn't possible in Windows XP without additional software such as Nero.

Do you have another DVD writing program installed in your computer?
