Re: set up problems

Then it sems that you have set up your router with a different user name and passwd..the reset the router and the try to log in to the router and reconfig your router..

To reset the router, the best way is to press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, or to press the reset button for 60 seconds..and for first 20 sec hold the reset with the power cable connected and for the next 20 sec with out releasing the reset button disconnect the power cable and continue holding the restet button , and after 20 sec reconnect power back and then continue holding the reset for another 20 sec..

and this would fix your problem..

Trying to reconfigure the router and a message comes up "unable to connect to router" I've done all the steps even reset to factory settings.

If you've tried reseting it, then the IP address is probably one of the following:

If you know how, try to ping the router via command prompt. You can do this by going to:

Start Menu>Run
then type

A black window will appear, try typing:

ping [one of the IP addresses above]

if nothing "replies" then you have a bad connection. If one of them does reply.

Try typing that IP address into the browser address bar to bring up the routers web interface.

If it's a linksys, try this for the username and password

Username: admin
Password: admin

for Netgear:

Username: admin
Password: password

I am trying to configure my netgear router to work with my dsl motorola modem

You can access your wireless router by first running you ethernet cable from pc to wireless, then in address bar, type and this will enter the wireless router's software. If it asks for username and password, try typing admin for both.

Ok. Firstly you must open up a web browser (Internet Explorer). Then in the address bar....type
A message box should pop up asking for a password. Leave the username blank and type admin for the password. That will allow you to change all settings on your router. You must then look for a security tab. In there look for security encryption. WPA/WEP2 either should work. Follow the instructions onscreen to set a password on the router end. Then on your computer you must open your network connection by clicking on the monitor with green waves coming out of it, in the bottom right corner of your taskbar. Then click View Available Wireless networks. Double click your network....type password when prompted....and VIOLA secured :)

Disconnection problems

I see. You can try changing the wireless settings of the router. You can do that by accessing the web based utility of the router. Here are the instructions:

1. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
2. Type the following text in the Open box: http://my.router
3. If this is the first time configuring your Dell Wireless 2350 Broadband Router, or if the user name and password have not been changed from the default settings, type admin in the User Name field and admin in the Password field.
4. Click the OK button. The Configuration screen appears.
5. Under the Basic settings, under Wireless Settings change the channel from Auto to 1, 6, or 11.

If that does not work, you can try updating the firmware of the router. You can download the firmware from this site:

Here are the instructions on how to upgrade:

1. Reaccess the configuration page of the router using a wired computer.
2. Click on System Tools, find Firmware Upgrade.
3. Click Browse and search for the firmware you downloaded from the site I gave you earlier. Select it and then start the upgrade. Let the firmware finish its upgrade.

Dinamic ip address

  1. Open an Internet browser, and type If a "Configuration Assistant" appears immediately, then do not follow the rest of these instructions. Follow the Configuration Assistant instructions, instead. Once you are finished, test your Internet connection by browing online,
  2. Type admin for User Name, and password is blank. (do no type any thing for password.)
  3. Click OK. This logs you into the router.
  4. Click the Home tab and click the WAN button. Dynamic IP Address is the default value, however, if Dynamic IP Address is not selected as the WAN type, select Dynamic IP Address by clicking on the radio button. Click Clone Mac Address. Click on Apply and then Continue to save the changes.

in case if yoy have any problem revert back with your internet service providers name.(isp).
