Crosby top load. Approx. 5 years old. Tries to spin then goes dead. No power. Removed the belt and the motor turns fine, after cooling down. Seems like the spin is jambed. Any ideas? Steve

Will not agitate or spin. Makes a whining clicking noise, then cuts out. I leave it for 20 minutes for the motor to cool, turn it on again, trips off again.
Drained it manually, removed laundry, same thing.

It has to drain down below a certain level before the spin will engage so check to make sure its draining all the way. or you can pop the top of the washer lid open (two clips at the front top) to see if something may be jammed in there around the drum. (I use a paint stir stick wooden wedge, and a hammer to pop open those clips.... you might be able to yank it open.

danby is not a high end machine a bearing may be shot on the drum shaft (was the machine nice and level prior to this fault?). if the motor is getting hot then its trying to work so there may also be something between the drum and tub. try turning it by hand to check if its stiff and if so you may have to take the top off and pull the drum

Not working with wierd symptoms

hi 5 years old ? from the symptoms you have described this is most probably the machines motor brushes are too low/worne as they all do in time this is not too difficult to diy repair if you feel confident ? the brushes in uk cost around £5 --£6 approx and to change them is easy by removing rear cover on machine you muat disconnect power/ drain pipe/ and turn off water supply pipe/s from machine ? the motor is rather like cars alternator in apearance?? disconnect power plug from it then you will have to look at motor and observe how it secures then remove bolts/nuts if you have new brushes to hand ??it will become obviouse how//where they fit and wire connects on each x2 at this it would be advisable after 5 yrs? to fit a new belt too? refit motor+belt adjust belt tension by adjusting motor on slide adjust then tighten? reassemble all parts in reverse then try a wash ? this is common prob especially after long time and for your info the down comforter load was the final nail in coffin but should have no probs after new brushes always think the positive waves! not the negative! good luck

Dryer motor

if the motor buzzes when you push start then it is a bad motor.as long as the drum turns freely by hand.

Kicks out?

the smaller belt is causing the tub to spin too quickly. the shorter belt is causing the motor to overheat and causing the thermal overload protector to shut dowqn the motor. when the motor cools it starts up again. replace the belt with te correct size and that will solve your problems

Machine has dificulty agitating, front pully has signs of melting, final spin starts slow but eventually picks up

The motor will have to be replaced if bearings are out. However, the smell you describe sounds like the belt slipping, which means something else is binding up. With the belt removed, turn each pulley and double check each one. A water pump is much more likely to fail than a motor. Good Luck

Wash but no spin

1st of all is there a spin cancel buuton on this machine and has it been activated, or is there a spin speed selector knob and has it been turned down...is inner drum easily turned by hand.if it is ok then belt tension could be suspect (tighten)im sure there is an out of load balance detection circuit on the main circuit board....also is it draining ok because it wont spin until it cant dectect low or no water prior to final spin.....also if it has a programme dial the select a spin programme on another section of selector dial.........hope this is of some help...
