Hi you need to unwire it all and leave it off for 24 hours this will reset any problem you have.
It sounds like it is wired up wrong somewere you can wire it direct without the brake this will also allow you to play dvd whislt driving this way passengers can watch dvd whilst driving also you will need to check all the wires as your problem sounds like either a wire wrong or the system has shorted out if this is the case and it has shorted it is going to be hard to get repaired and also expensive so iwould try unplugging it for 24 hours and then rewire it checking everywire is in the right place.
If you are 110% sure that it is wired up properly then the chances are the unit itself is damaged.
When you wire it back up make sure you do all the wires at the same time dont chage one after as this can cause the unit to malfunction give this a try and let me know how you get on ok

The wire that goes to the postitive side of your parking switch it should only be conected like this as a safety measure to stop you watching dvds whilst you drive.

You can put this wire to any positive wire like from the clock or something similar.

If it says the green lead goes to positive connector long as this is any auxilary positive wire this will rule out the brake causing the problem.

The only problem i have known people to have with this model is if it is not wired properly before it is switched on ie make sure all wires are connected properly makes sure you have a good earth.

If it isnt wired correctly and you have to change wires after this can cause unit to malfunction.

So i would start again if you have manuall go throught it carefull checking all wires are correct and that the earth you are using is good connection then the unit should opperate as it should even getting speakers wrong way round can cause problems.

If you are 100% sure the wires are correct and secure and you have a good eart - then the unit should be ok.

if you still have problems then the chances are its either got software problem or that the unit itself has shorted and blown a resistor so if you try again and still have problems you will either need multi meter to check all wires are getting right power and if this is correct then you need to either look at getting the resistors tested and also the software.

This can only be done by makers as you cant get the software or schematics for this unit.

Let me know how you get on ok

Hi sorry i havnt been around for a while i was having huge problems acessing my email account.
I think your absolutely right and the unit probably is no good.
If when you wire it up and the unit does come on if you are unable to acess the controlls or certain functions then the problem will be with the unit itself.
Its not worth trying to repair as it would probably cost as much as it would to replace the whole unit

are you 100% sure the green lead goes to the possitive as other makes it goes to the earth i dont know your models instruction but i might be wrong let me know

  • paul proctor Dec 11, 2007

Hi the unit must be bad have you tried wiring the brake wire to another live wire this should then not give you message about brake if you still get this message then i would take the unit back.
Let me know how you get on ok

Bypass ebrake with relay on a pioneer avh-p5700

Go to any auto parts store and purchase a four wire relay and wire it up as follows: The relay will have numbers written on the bottom for each pin. The wire from the parking brake from the H/U to 87. Ground to 85 and 30. Remote from the H/U to 86. This will give you an automatic bypass to the DVD lockout. If you want to just put a switch to do this manually you can also. Go to Radio Shack and buy a momentary push button switch, part number 275-1548. Take the green wire coming out of the unit. Strip the wire, and attach it to one of of the pins on the relay switch. It doesn't matter which one. Buy a standard 16 gauge wire from Radio Shack and connect it to the other pin on the switch, then connect the other end of it to a grounded connection on your vehicle. Now, when you play a DVD, the warning screen will come on. Just press the button on the switch and it will go away, since it tricks the receiver into thinking you have engaged the parking brake. Like someone said before, it is illegal in just about all states to have a dvd or other video playing if the driver can see it and the car is moving. This method is used because the lockout not only keeps you from seeing videos but also locks out some features which many feel have nothing to do with safety and they need it.

Watch a dvd while driving pioneer AVH-P4000 DVD

ground the wire to a hot (ie power comes to the wire) switch in your dash, like a rear window defroster or seat heater. turn the switch on then off and it will trick the system into thinking you activated the parking brake.

if green wire is connected to ebrake then pull the ebrake and it will open, if you want it to open while driving you have to wire green to ground.

similar but not exactly the same - for a dvd you must also connect a line to the parking brake wire that shows ground when engaged
