Just format your player and it should get rid of everything, including the preinstalled junk. Right click 'internal storage' and select format.

My daughter and I had the same problem. We found that we had some songs buried in other folders so we went through every file and just decided to delete everything and start over. It worked for us.

I have a coby player, but mine is a different model. yours should have a Reset button somewhere on it. It usually can only be accessed using the end of a needle (that is how small it is). This will reset your player and should make it work.
Are you trying to delete music off of your player or off of your computer? it sounds as if you want the music off of your player. to do that, navigate to where your player is on your computer (it should hooked up to your computer with your usb cord). You should be able to get there by going into My computer and clicking the Removable Folder (J:) (F:) (G:) or (I:). Or you will see your player under Other. Click to go into it. Navigate to the folder entitled Music. Select the files you want to delete. Drag them to your recycle bin, or hold down the Control key on your computer while clicking the files you want off your computer. Then right click and select Delete. Files all gone. hope this helps!
