Clothes getting sucked under agitator (by 9 users)

posted by gymcoach on Dec 01, 2007

I have a calypso GVW9959KQ1. My clothes are getting sucked down below the agitator. My best guess is that I need to either replace the whole agitator or just the seal????? What is the part number for those? Also, I have been getting black stains on my clothes. Even on my whites which have been bleached! Where is that coming from and how should I fix it? Thanks! ;)
I have the same problem.

Same thing happened to me. How do you get the lid off to get to the drum. I tired of paying sears to fix the same problem

We have a Calypso washing machine and have had 3 service calls on it and am ready for number four- #1 - we washed a bathroom rug in the machine and it stopped up the pump - #2Pump plugged again - was replaced
#3 loud squeals when there was just 12 min left on the machine . replaced the fill valves for the water softener dispenser- #4 will be - it is shredding all the towels - they must work themselves under the agitator and the threads are all just hanging. what do we do about this?????

I, too had the problem with clothes getting stuck. We were still on service contract, so the whole washplate was replaced. We aren't getting the clothes stuck anymore, but I am having major problems with black stains on all of my whites...I'm going to call the service guy back because our extended warranty expires in april...the problem with the clothes getting stuck is because the rubber on the outside of the washplate wears down. The only way to correct it is to replace the entire washplate. This washing machine is the worst I've ever had!! It's not even 5 years old yet and I'm ready to get rid of it!!!

I was able to find information on another web site with a Whirlpool Calypso repair manual: https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/2c1e295a88aaaae885256c5d004632a4/$FILE/8178010.pdf

Check out steps 5 and 6 on page 36:

6. Using two (2) flat bladed screwdrivers, 90°
apart, in the notches provided, separate the
dome from the outer wash plate. (Fig. 3-11)

7. Remove the six (6) 3/8” bolts securing the
outer wash plate to the universal joint.
(Fig. 3-12) Remove the outer wash plate
from the basket.

That gave me enough room to lift the outer wash plate and remove three napkins and a wash rag.

P.S. Take precautions to keep the bolts from dropping under the outer wash plate.

Ugh! It's been a long week. Should say "Check out steps 6 and 7 on page 36".

My machine finally stopped working due to the clothes getting stuck. It was still under warranty so the repairman replaced the entire washplate. Not even two weeks later, clothes started getting stuck again and now it is no longer working again. It is all of the little clothes, socks, underwear that is jamming the whole thing up. I hate this machine. I have now been without a machine over 4 weeks total time, I should have just bought something new with all of the money I am spending at the laundromat.

Did anybody solved this problem or find out the solution?

I have the exact same problem. The dark spots on my sheets and I now have a sheet stuck between the agitator and the wall.
