My Wii Sports disk doesn't seem to work. It worked at first, but a few months after I purchased Wii, an error message pops up reading "Game Disk Could Not Be Read"

There is very minimal scratching on the disk... I doubt it would be enough to actual prevent gameplay.

I have several other games, all of which are working properly.

Same problem here! My son's just got one from Santa, I set it up played three other games then tried Wii sports and I got the infamous "Error" message. Apparently it's a known problem and fixes seem to range from sending in the machine for a new disk drive to replacing the game. WTF? Nintendo needs to address this....

  • lonzie27 Dec 27, 2008

Same problem...Wii Fit works like a charm...Wii Sports don't. Calling nintendo....New system they need to replace the disc or system.

  • Anonymous Dec 27, 2008

I offered the Wii to my daughter for Christmas (12/25/08) and yesterday the Wii sports stopped working; for instance for the tennis games, it let me select the players and select the setting, but when it is time to serve, the remote doesn't work, and it is like that for all the wii sports.Something is wrong with the disk or something because I aslo bought the Bowling Pinbusters and that game works perfectly fine.

Just disable the internet connection on the wii by reset the settings. and again wii sports will work! don't ask what happen but for sure there is not the reading drive .. i try some cd's and work's great . the wii sports only have the issue in some cases indipence from the update of the console . that is my opinion.

This may sounds slightly silly, but I found it did work for me.
I had just gotten my Wii and hadn't even played my Wii Sports for the second time when I started to get the Wii Error Messages. Of course, besides being mad to all high ends, I decided to look this problem up online and found I was not alone, yet the only solution people gave was to either call Nintendo and demand a new disc that didn't work or to cut your losses and say 'Oh Well."

Well, a few weeks later after I recieved my Netflix Disc, I found I had a connection problem. I got on the Wii Forums and asked around but got no reply or help from anyone. After a few days of waiting, I decided I was going to toy with it a little longer and if nothing else worked, I was going to take it back, call the number they give you and tell them where they could shove this piece of **** gaming council. After turning my Wii on and off, unpluging it and resetting the connection on my Wii a million times, I finally got up, went to my router and restarted the silly thing. My Wii connected to the net just fine after that and for the hell of it, I threw in my Wii Sports and alas, it started up and worked as though it never had problems.

So, for anyone who is having any trouble, just restart your router. There should be a small push button on the back. Just hit that to turn it off, again to turn it back on, let everything re-connect to the internet and see if that doesn't help.

My Wii Sports disk crapped out on me within the first 2 weeks. I finally got frustrated enough to call Nintendo. They took down my credit card information and sent me a new disk with the stipulation that, if I didn't send the old one back in the provided packaging, they would dun my credit card $16.99. The new disk worked for several months but has now crapped out again in spite of it remaining in the Wii console. Here we go again. Hope this helped

The person who mentioned resetting your router is a genius... I just did it and now my wii sports is working!

before boiling, using toothpaste or car wax, or breaking the disk, simply try turning off the power to your router, modem, and wii console for 5 minutes and then plug them all back in again. GENIUS!

There is many reasons why the disk may not be working, it could be broken and you have'ft to buy a new one - but before doing all that, take the disk out, whipe it with a piece of cloth for smudges, dirt, and scratches, if still not working try rising it with water, and then drying it (Do NOT put in wet) then if it still doesn't work - you have'ft to buy a new one, or try talking to microsoft for refunds, if microsoft doesn't refund you you are with out that game, or you purchase a new one.

Oh I forgot - be sure to put the disk all the way in.

I had them send us a brand new disc and tried it yesterday, it doesn't work either. I think it's a problem with the game in general, the wii fit disc is fabulous

Posted on Jun 05, 2008

It seems that nintendo sends you a brand new disk if yours doesn't work. Only if you call them... :)

Did you try turning the disk over so the label shows on the opposite side. With the Wii you have to put them in upside down it seems.

SOURCE: Every time a game is put in the Wii says 'unable

You could try a 3rd party slot cleaner, or use the tried-and-true retro Nintendo console method of blowing into it.

How scratched is the disk? If it's really beat up, that might be the problem right there.

I had a similar problem before, and neither of my methods worked. I had to get it fixed by Nintendo themselves. Hopefully you don't have the worst-case scenario!

Wii unable to recognize the disc in Disc channel

This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your games, or issues inserting your games or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your Wii including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your Wii going again!
