The central bolt that goes from the engine and works the cutting arms, just will not come out!
I have tried everything I can think of including turning it on it's side and useing wood & a metal bar to try and prise it off, it just won't budge.
I am trying to remove the engine to replace it.
Any ideas anyone?

The easiest way is to use an electric or air powered 1/2 inch impact gun to get the bolt loose.

How to change blade boss on briggs &stratton sp 470

Unscrew the central bolt (9/16") - remove blade and any washers etc. It's a conventional right hand thread (anti-clockwise to remove), but may well be extremely tight. If necessary, grind the head of the bolt off and replace it.

The blade boss slides off the shaft - in theory. In practice, you will probably have to use a puller bearing on the blade bolt to pull it off. Remove the drive belt first!

What are the torque specs on intake manifold on Briggs & stratton

if there is thread locking compound on bolt or threads it must be removed, use a tap to clean the threads and a wire brush to clean the bolts. Use a thread locking compound (blue) when reassembling, torque the bolts to 30 ft. lbs. alternating bolt to bolt in 7-10 lb. increments. Recheck the torque after the engine has been ran up to op temp.

Briggs and Stratton Intek V twin 22HP motor misfires.

Misfiring could be caused by simple things like fouled or worn out sparkplugs or an ignition system that is slightly faulty or Fuel problems such as dirty or stale fuel or clogged filter causing a leam mixture. Some B & S motors have an switch that cuts the Ignition if the oil pressure or oil level is low.
Another cause could be the Valve clearances are out of adjustment.
Armed with your Engine Number, visit the B & S Website for comprehensive information and specifications as well as a good FAQ listing.

Engine races

One thing I read is that on some the arm from the govenor shaft can slip on the shaft so the arm is rotated on the shaft to a point the govenor isn't even in contact with the internals driving the shaft. On those units a clamp bolt becomes loose causing the problem.

I suspect if there IS an internal problem it is severe and one would have to disassemble the engine before operating it lest damage occur from loose parts.
