Hi,

The problem is, that you have a really simple DVD ROM (drive)

you cant really solve this problem, the only thing that you have to do is to buy a new one which will be more expensive.
However it will write discs and have many more features.

you can buy new CD/DVD ROM at any technology shops such as PC WORLD, i recomend you to buy one at "ebay' because you will get the same product a you can buy at shop, but it will coast you much less

Cannot read the dvd disc
Your problem could be the DVD itself (make sure that the disc is not scratched or dirty) or the DVDD drive. If the drive will read other discs then the problem is the actual DVD. If the drive will not read anything else then it is time to replace the drive.

My DVR RW is not unable to read any DVD or CD. It cant read CD even while booting via bootable disc. The imae icon appears in the Explorer, but it cant read the discs.
Hello,

the fault is from the lens (laser) of your drive, that's why its not reading discs. The lens is weak such that it cannot load discs.

How long have you been using this drive? I think its high time you got another one.

XPS One will not read CDs or play DVDs
1.use original disc, bcz some brand drives not supported all the discs available in the market.
2.cheak with other disc,if any disc cant read ,then

* Open Your CPU system cabinet,then cheak the data cable and power cable of the Dvd/Cd Drive.(You may change the other power card in your system already had)

* change the data cable
3.if u still have the problem,then finaly replace the new drive.LG Dvd Drive is beswt one.because it can read all discs.

Unable to read discs
Take a can of air and gently blow some into the drive to make sure that the laser has no specs of dirt or dust on it.

If after you do this you still can't get the Wii to read any discs, then the drive is bad and would need to be replaced. It is also possible to replace just the laser but that would require opening up the drive to get to the laser so replacing the drive would be the easier option.

Will not read DVD discs.
It looks like you have a lens problem, DVD and CD use a different error correction and different track format.
A dirty lens can read CD but not DVD.
Tru first using a lens cleaner like this ones:

If it does not work you can try cleaning the lens directly with cotton and isopropyl alcohol, you will need to undo the screws at the button and to take apart the cover. Unplug power when doinfg this.

If it still does not work, since you aready reinstalled the firmware, the lens may be faulty.
You can order the lens pickup from factory and replace it.
