Bcd396t sacnner Hi I have a american 396t scanner and I was wondering if it can be set up for Australia scanning by having the cellular block taken off. Is there a program out there that I can down load to change this. RegardsFrank

Re: bcd396t sacnner

The manufacturers can make the scanner to receive encryption...obviously...but. but...when all utilities soon, one day go to encryption, this hobby will be out the door... 10 years ago we were analog, now were digital and encypted half way, at least here in canada....wahts to come in the near future? toss the scanner.

That would be a no. been trying for years, if you could it make your legal scanner do this , it would make it illegal.

Have uniden 396T. Control channel now on one system does not work

Have you put in more than one control channel for your area.

I always put as many of the red or blue Control channels in my area. I counted 23 Control Channels for the whole system. I would put everyone in if it were me.

I set the system up as "Control Channel Only".

In a metroploitan area you should be able to pick up another control channel on the system.

I use the Arc396Pro Software ato program my scanner. (available at ScannerMaster) I know in the Pro version you can download the information directly into your scanner. You can try this to be sure your settings are going in correctly.

Handheld scanner/preprogramed frequencies

You sure confused me . . .
My recently purchased BCD396XT came with a mind of its own - not matter what I did, it would only scan the preprogrammed systems in Alaska. That didn't do much for me here in Texas, so I had to beat the thing into submission. First I installed BuTel programming software, then I deleted ALL the factory programming. Finally, I used the software to download and program what I wanted from the database at The scanner does exactly what I want it to.

If there is there you may have locked them out, or try and hit the scan button. If you would like help on any of them let me know.

BCD369T problem

You might be able to, if you understand how to reset the scanner's binary CPU board. But honestly, I had the same scanner with the same problem, and one way to fix it is to reprogram the entire scanner's memory. The second way is expensive, send it to a radio repair store. I'd recommend to just reprogram it and see if it works then. If no avail, you might need to have it looked at, but reprogramming it helped my problem. It's time consuming I know, but it worked.

Looking To Buy A good scanner? Is The BCD396T The way to go?

A good scanner? Hmm... too many to list. But the #1 on my list is a Realistic PRO-2006 gapless frequency scanner. This scanner has no limitations to what it can scan. It scans HF/FM/AM/VHF/UHF/Air/TAC/Marine VHF/GMRS/CB/SSB/USB/LSB/WX. Hell, it even scans the FM and AM bands (the music bands). It's frequency range is up in the 1300 MHz range and is probably the only scanner you'll ever need. If it's too pricey, my second recommendation is a Regency MX4000. The Regency MX4000 is a good little scanner with a 950MHz range. It is not gapless however. It has 20 Memory channels and scans AM/FM/UHF/VHF/Air/Marine VHF/Mobile Phone/WX bands. It may be hard to find one because Regency went out of business a while back, but if you do find one, it may be worth your while.

Best Regards,
