Question about D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

Internet connection keeps dropping

I'm running Vista home Premium. I have bought a Dlink G624T router and a DWL-G122 wireless adapter.

Can anyone suggest why it might lose the internet connection so often? Sometimes it will work fine for several hours, others - like tonight, it keeps dropping out. The only way I can reconnect is to reboot the PC.

Hopefully

    Pasha,

    There are several symptoms.

The connection drops and Windows cannot then find it to reconnect. I usually have to reboot to reconnect. Devices tells me that there is no driver.

Most of the time, a short while after losing the connection, the Pc freezes and I have to reboot.

I have had many BSOD's. These reference one of two problems - NWIFI.SYS (I have updated to the latest version from microsoft), or DR71WU - which I think is the driver for the adapter.

I think that this is a Vista/driver conflict. There are very few adapters which seem Vista compliant. One website I looked at implied a new driver is being released in Q1 08.

    Thanks for the interest.

I got so fed up with the constant crashes whenever I used the internet that I bought another adapter, certified for Vista - a Belkin F5D7070. Since then I have had no problems at all. I am convinced that the drivers for the Dlink are the problem.

Two possible reasons

If you have hidden your network name (SSID) in the wireless configuration in the router and use WEP or WPA security there may be a bug that can result in extended disconnect periods. Recommended solution unhide the SSID and keep the WEP or WPA security.

Second there are numerous wireless devices in use. Keep your wireless phone base station away from your wireless router. Try changing the channel your router's radio uses to transmit -- Channels 1, 6 and 11 are preferred. Try one you are not using, if that does not work try the other. (If you can see the surrounding channels in you connection wizard you may want to start with one no one else is using)

Did you try the channel change? The wireless interference does not need to come from your home, apartment, or business. It can be coming from the neighbors wireless activity, too.

If you tried these and they do not work can you offer any additional description of the symptoms of the issue?

I know the Vista blues -- my daughter just dumped Vista and returned to XP on her new machine -- just could not get much done with Vista on her machine.

I was somewhat curious and thanks for the response because the two reasons I presented to you have worked for numerous people and I was trying to get a handle on the limitations -- you have provided me valuable information as to potential issues my fix does not address.

    Thanks again for the response.

DWL-G122 how do you load to windows 7

The support documentation for this USB wireless adapter is here: http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=DWL-G122&tab=3
Depending on the revision number there are Windows Vista drivers.

The product is listed as Win7 compatibile on the Windows 7 Compatibility Center. At that site, it says "no action required" so the drivers you need may be part of the Win7 OS. Try plug and play first. Otherwise try a Vista driver (just uninstall any non-working driver before trying another).

I hope this helps.

I have a D link DWL-G122. It keeps getting disconnected. When connected the speed is variable although the cable connection speed is 10MB

atry changing the channel of your router. teh distance of the computer from the router affects the quality of your connection also. you may try updating the driver of your wireless adapter or if all wireless computers are experiencing same problem try upgrading the router's firmware. By the way make sure that there's no wireless devices that is 3 ft away from the router. it should be 5ft or more.

It may also be an issue with a firewall on either computer. If you have McAfee, Norton or Windows Firewall enabled, disable it on both side and try the file sharing again. If it works, you will know that you have to check you firewall rules.
