Re: Updates

You can update the unit's firmware for free. Go to, and dowload the Web Updater software. This will check your unit's firmware (and some other software features) against Garmin's website and let you know if there are updates available. If so, you can download them for free. If you need to update your MAPS, these updates are available for purchase from Garmin. Go to the website and click on the C330. Then click on Maps. It will let you know what is available, and what it will cost you.95174195

Re: Updates

Hello, you can check on the Garmin website to see if there is an update - or you can go to to see if there are updates to the map software. Good Luck! Dr. Know

No access to free map or traffic updates. Plugged in traffic accessory that came with the unit, and it tells me that the accessory is not compatible with the unit. The serial number on the bottom of the...

If the Garmin Nuvi is sold with "life-time updates" for maps & traffic - updates are available for download at once they are available.

A "life-time update" is coupled to the serial number of the Garmin unit. If the serial number does not match the box with "life-time updates" on it - it could be the Garmin Nuvi came from another box without "life-time updates".

Without "life-time updates" - maps are available for free within 60 days after purchase. A "purchase" is registered by the Garmin device if it detects a certain speed or when it's registered at - meaning the 60 day countdown starts. Without a "life-time update" for traffic - a traffic subscription must be bought for a country & timeframe. (ie a year).

I receved this unit from a friend and some address can't be entered, are there updates still available for this unit. I know it's old but works ok except on a few occasions. It has a memory card. Jesse

You dont say what model you have. If its a Garmin they have updates avaliable but they charge you for them. They will send you a CD that you will pay for. Your unit has to be attached to your computer to accept the updates. Just google Garmin and go to there official website on instructions on how to purchase their update disk.

I hope this helps you out.

I recently purchased a Garmin nuvi(r) 1310(T) from Halfords in Manchester and was advised to get a "free" update after registering my unit, as it could be 1-2 years old. On checking there were no "free"...

If a new map becomes available within 60 days of the satnav first receiving a satellite signal you get it free. If you only got the satnav there may not be an update at the moment. While the satnav may have been a while in the shop Halfords keep the maps up to date. Even if there was not a free update available myMaps in myGarmin should show if there's an update which could be paid for available. If it says no update available you probably have the latest version. A new map normally comes out in November though the dates vary. Keep a check by logging into myGarmin and checking on myMaps. When the new map becomes available it should show up there. It will let you know if it's free or not.

If you want to check what year the map on your satnav is:
Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol)
Press SETTINGS (or LOCALE if your satnav doesn't have a settings icon)
Press MAPS
Press MAP INFO at the bottom of the map page

This will show what map you have and the year of the map. If your map is the latest version it would explain why there's no updates

My Tom Tom is two years old and I was told that I should upgrade the maps each year. How do I go about doing that?

The Tomtom map updates are available by subscription from Under most conditions it is not really necessary to update every year. The updates run about $40 per year. The best option on most of the small GPS units under $100 is to use it for 2-3 years and then just sell the older one and buy a new unit. The reason I say this is because the map updates only update the maps not the features or the software. The newer units will have new features and options for the same price as you would get with buying a map update your the older unit.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

I need to update the maps in my amcor 3900

The Amcor 3900 was actually sold needing updates - as the installed map software was over 3-years old.

There is no update available at this time. Amcor sold these units with a promise to have an update available (with a fee) in the future. However, their website for this unit has been removed from the internet.

It is not reasonably likely for there to be future support for this unit from Amcor.

How do i update maps on my model c330 purchased in2006

The only way is to purchase them is directly from Garmin.

Being that you have not updated the maps you will pay a penalty as they want people to update each year that a update becomes available.

Updates will probably run you $99 to $150 based on your software being 2-3 updates behind.

Being that the unit is 3-4 years old, I would not recommend investing $100 to update the software.

Vast improvements have been made to screen image quality, touch screen input technology as well as to the GPS receiver itself. Improvements to receiver sensitivity and "text to speech" technology alone merit an upgrade. I would instead recommend shopping around for a new unit as there are some incredible deals out there.

Magellan makes a roadmate 1430 or 1470 with nice large touch screens that run under $150. Garmin has a few models in that price range as well, try to get something with a 4.3" or larger touchscreen.

Hope that helps

I need free updates for my magellan gps

if you are looking for map updates I have not been successful in transferring data from one unit to another. That requires their "process" experimentation on bypassing their updates on a older roadmate 700 series caused alot of pain.

If you need a firmware update that is available at their website

If you have a unit more than 3 years old don't waste money on updates the new roadmate 1430 or 1470 run about $150 and the 1 touch navigation is much better than the older software. There have also been MAJOR improvements in the GPS receiver and sensitivity is far superior to those units built even just two years ago.

How do I update my street piolet c-340?

If you are referring to firmware updates and you have downloaded Garmin's Web Updater, just plug the unit into the computer. The Web Updater will connect online and let you know if there are available updates. If you are referring to map updates, it is up to you when to update the maps, but new maps are usually available for purchase each year. You don't have to update them that often, though.

It says my mays are 1 year old and i need to up date it i can't find my book on it i have had it for 3 months its new

Don't worry, it's just telling you that map updates are available if you want to purchase them. You can still use the unit without the updates. You can download a copy of the manual online, just do a google search for the manufacturer and model of the unit.
